The 81-year-old musician has also had to cancel several gigs recently

Sir Rod Stewart required emergency oxygen assistance during his concert in Utah on Friday evening after nearly losing consciousness on stage.

The 81-year-old rock icon was performing at the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre in West Valley City when he became visibly unwell, doubling over and clutching instruments and stage equipment for support.

Footage captured the veteran performer leaning heavily on a piano during Young Turks before backstage staff rushed out with an oxygen tank.

After taking several deep breaths from the mask, Mr Stewart addressed the crowd with characteristic humour, declaring: "The show must go on. I nearly f***ing fainted there. Would you mind if I sit down for this one?"

The Maggie May singer completed the remainder of his set from a chair, drawing laughs when he told fans he had "dang near fainted."

The alarming incident follows a turbulent period for the British star's health.

Earlier this month, Mr Stewart was forced to reschedule several performances at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace after his physician insisted on additional rest while he recovered from influenza.

His troubles deepened on June 12 when a San Diego concert was scrapped mere hours before showtime.

Medical professionals diagnosed him with an acute upper respiratory infection that had developed into laryngitis, leaving him unable to perform.

"Following treatment, I'm feeling much better, but my voice is not," Mr Stewart admitted to fans on Instagram, sharing an image of himself standing alone in the empty venue.

The singer had also cancelled two Las Vegas residency shows in late May, citing a sinus infection that required vocal rest.

Mr Stewart faced criticism after the California cancellation when he was spotted travelling to Boston the following day to watch Scotland compete in their World Cup group stage opener against Haiti.

The singer posted footage on Instagram showing himself and sons Aidan and Alastair aboard a private jet heading to the match, and was reportedly seen enjoying an alcoholic beverage in the stands.

Mr Stewart later defended his decision, explaining that while medical treatment had improved his overall condition, his voice remained too weak for him to take the stage.

Mr Stewart is currently midway through the North American leg of his One Last Time tour, a farewell to large-scale touring that celebrates a career spanning more than six decades.

The former Faces frontman launched the tour in 2024, though recent weeks have seen a pattern of cancellations and postponements disrupt the schedule.

His performances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, originally planned for June 15 and 16, have been pushed back to September 2027.

Despite the setbacks, Mr Stewart has delivered strong performances when healthy, with Deadline describing his recent Hollywood Bowl appearance as "vivacious."

He told 17,500 fans: "This is my last time here, so let's have a party tonight."

His next scheduled performance is July 31 in Wantagh, New York.
