Lloyds and Barclays customers have reported being hit by payment delays
Barclays and Lloyds customers have reported problems with payments and transfers, with some saying money was not appearing in their accounts.
Lloyds has confirmed it is investigating an issue affecting Faster Payments.
Downdetector, which tracks potential service problems through reports submitted by users, recorded an increase in complaints involving both banks on Monday.
At the time of checking, 53 per cent of reported Lloyds problems related to fund transfers, while 23 per cent concerned the app and 14 per cent involved online banking.
Lloyds acknowledged the Faster Payments issue while responding to a customer on X.
The bank said: "Hi there, I'm Dhanraj. Sorry for the inconvenience. We're investigating an issue affecting Faster Payments, which may cause delays.
"If you've already made a payment, please don't send it again. Check it has gone through first to avoid duplicate payments."
One customer told Lloyds: "Is anyone else having any issues with Lloyds? I Can’t get money from the ATM nor make any bank transfers to pay etc. My partner is also having the same issues with her Lloyds account. Their helpline has a 40 minute delay - so something is definitely not right."
Another user said: "I'm about to board a 3 hour train and couldn't use my card due to banking issues and therefore I'll have no food or water. How will you resolve this matter?"
Another said: "Is there an issue transferring funds out. Tried sending a couple payments to a Barclays account said it was having issues and 5 mins later the funds have left and not showing in the other bank account. Help."
Other customers reported receiving messages saying payments could not be made, only for the transactions to be processed later.
Responding to one user on X, Lloyds customer service said: "Your payment has been successfully processed; however, there may be a slight delay before it appears in your transactions or leaves your account. Please do not resend the payment, as this could result in the transaction being processed twice. Thank you for your patience."
Barclays customers separately reported delays involving transfers from other UK accounts.
Barclays UK Help responded to several complaints on X and apologised to customers experiencing payment problems.
One customer wrote on X: "hey I am currently stood at the pharmacy waiting to pay for my prescription but I’ve moved money and it’s left my account but not landed in my other UK account please help"
Barclays responded: "Hi, I hope you are well. I am so sorry to hear you are facing this issue. Please join me in DM where we can chat securely."
Another customer was told: "Apologies for the issues with your payment," and was directed to Barclays' contact page for alternative ways to seek help.
Both bank's replies dealt with customers individually and did not confirm whether a wider outage was affecting its services or explain what had caused the delays.
Lloyds had also not publicly acknowledged an unplanned outage, while its official service page showed no scheduled maintenance affecting the app or online banking.
The bank states that same-day payments normally reach the recipient within two hours, although some transfers can take until the end of the next working day.
Customers should avoid sending the same payment repeatedly because delayed transfers could still arrive, potentially resulting in duplicate transactions.
Those facing urgent difficulties should contact their bank directly and keep screenshots or receipts showing when payments were made.
