High street shops across the UK continue to close as Britons grapple with the cost of living crisis
Shoppers are being dealt another blow as store closures continue to sweep Britain’s high streets in June 2024.
Marks and Spencer, WHSmith, Poundland and Clarks are among the brands closing doors of certain sites for good in the month ahead.
WHSmith
WHSmith is closing its Boscombe store on Christchurch high street on Saturday, June 8.
According to a WHSmith spokesperson, after 12 years at the site, the store will be closing as it is "no longer sustainable to trade" from this location and WHSmith has not renewed its lease.
The store in Sutton, South London will be closing down on Saturday, June 8.
According to a B&Q spokesperson, the closure was down to "unsuccessful negotiations" when renewing its lease.
The spokesperson said: "Due to unsuccessful negotiations to renew the lease at our Sutton Court Road store, we will be closing our doors on June 8, 2024."
Poundland
Poundland on George Street in the Stamford Quarter is closing after eight months.
A spokesperson for Poundland said: "Sadly we’ve been unable to agree lease terms that would enable us to keep the store trading. The store is currently planned to close on June 17. Whenever we have to close a store, it goes without saying we do all we can to find alternative roles for colleagues."

New Look
A New Look spokesperson said: "New Look occasionally closes sites, but also opens new stores when the right opportunities."
