Pension Credit is a benefit top-up payment administered by the DWP

Households are being reminded they could be entitled to up £4,300 in unclaimed benefits from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) this Easter bank holiday.

With April bringing increases to Council Tax, energy bills, broadband, mobile phones and TV licence fees, family budgets are under additional pressure.

Taking just half an hour during the holiday break could help you discover if someone eligible for financial support you're not currently claiming.

Notably, older households could be entitled to thousands of pounds in extra support thanks to Pension Credit, which is a top-up payment reserved for pensioners on low incomes.

Older people on low incomes could be entitled to an income boost worth an average of £4,300 through Pension Credit.

The most recent figures from the DWP suggest 760,000 people are eligible for this means-tested benefit but are not claiming it.

Many pensioners mistakenly believe they do qualify because they have savings or own their home.

However, even an award of just £1 per week is enough to unlock additional support.

Eligibility can be quickly checked using the online Pension Credit calculator on GOV.UK.

Alternatively, pensioners can contact the Pension Credit helpline directly on 0800 99 1234.

However, it should be noted that lines are closed for Easter and will reopen on Tuesday, April 22.

Those over state pension age with health conditions might qualify for Pension Age Disability Payment or Attendance Allowance.

These benefits could provide either £73.90 or £110.40 per week. This translates to between £295.60 and £441.60 every four weeks.

Thanks to Pension Credit being a gateway benefit, many pensioners receiving support are able to access up to £4,300 in combined benefit support.
