Beefeater is the latest restaurant-pub chain to announce sweeping closures
An iconic pub-restaurant chain is closing more than 100 locations across the UK from today in a blow to customers.
Beefeater has previously confirmed plans to shut its 106 sites on September 10 with around 3,800 jobs expected to be lost in the process.
In July, the hospitality chain informed Beefeater Rewards Club members of the news over email.
It stated: "As you may have seen, we have recently announced changes to our business, which is resulting in the closure of our branded restaurants.
“This means that on Thursday September 10, 2026 your local Beefeater and all other UK Beefeaters will close.”
This latest round of closures is part of a wider restructuring plan being carried out by Beefeater's parent company, Whitbread.
The Premier Inn owner is retiring the brand, along with several other restaurant chains.
Said brands include Table Table, Brewers Fayre, Bar + Block and Cookhouse + Pub, alongside Beefeater.
According to the firm, former Beefeater and Brewers Fayre sites will be used as part of a huge expansion for Premier Inn.
Whitbread chief executive Dominic Paul, said: "We plan to convert all our remaining branded restaurants to an integrated food and beverage offer that is preferred by our hotel guests and will unlock the addition of more highly profitable extension rooms.
"Our continued efforts to drive our commercial plan and efficiencies will extend our market-leading position and allow us to take share from our competitors, many of which are struggling to grow."
The decision to close dozens of restaurants comes amid growing financial pressure on the hospitality industry after recent tax hikes from the Labour Government.
