The supermarket giant has shared its 'wish list' for areas it hopes to open a new store in

A major supermarket has revealed its "wish list" for new store openings in the UK, with more than 1,000 areas being earmarked for a new site.

Lidl GB has unveiled an extensive list of target locations spanning the length of Britain as the discount supermarket doubles down on its expansion plans.

The retailer confirmed earlier this month that it will open over 50 new stores within the coming year, backed by a substantial £600million investment programme.

This announcement follows Lidl's remarkable 33-month run as the fastest-growing physical supermarket in the UK, a position it has maintained since reaching a significant milestone last November when it opened its 1,000th British store in East Grinstead.

The supermarket's newly published Site Requirements Brochure details hundreds of potential store locations, ranging from Garthdee in Aberdeen and Aldgate in central London to Ystradgynlais in Wales and Windsor in Berkshire.

Lidl is on the hunt for freehold, leasehold, or long-leasehold properties situated in prominent positions offering strong pedestrian traffic and convenient access.

Those with knowledge of suitable sites stand to benefit financially, as the company is offering a competitive finder's fee to anyone who identifies a previously unknown location that ultimately becomes a developed store.

Richard Taylor, the chief real estate officer at Lidl GB, said: "At Lidl GB, we currently have one of the most ambitious store opening programmes of any supermarket and we are more committed than ever to bringing our high quality and low priced products to even more communities across the country."

He added: "All of our stores deliver more than just affordable products. Each one also brings quality jobs, opportunities for British suppliers to showcase the best of our home grown produce and support to local good causes in the communities each one serves.

"In uncertain times, shoppers and communities can count on us."

The retailer offers some of the sector's most competitive pay packages, with entry-level hourly wages starting at £13.45 nationally and rising to £14.45 based on tenure.

London-based staff receive enhanced rates beginning at £14.80 per hour, increasing to £15.30 with continued service. Through its partnership with Neighbourly, Lidl's surplus food donation programme delivered 18.5 million meals to 6.8 million people in need over a single year, with every outlet connected to local charitable organisations.
