Police say they have new CCTV images showing Abdul Ezedi in the Southwark Bridge area
A man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting the alleged Clapham alkali attacker Abdul Shokoor Ezedi, police have said.
The 22-year-old man was taken to a south London police station and this afternoon was released on bail.
Police say they have new CCTV images showing Ezedi in the Southwark Bridge area at 21.50 on Wednesday but confirmed they are not currently searching the River Thames.
Officers are tracking his bank card, but say it has not been used since the evening of the attack.
Dep Sup Sewett added that it is possible that the 31-year-old mother, injured in the attack, may lose sight in her right eye.
She remains sedated and in critical but stable condition with serious injuries which she will have for rest of her life.
As part of their investigation, police are trying to establish how long Ezedi and the woman have known each other and what sort of relationship they had - as the mother is too poorly to speak to officers.
The Met has confirmed that Ezedi is not the father of the woman's children who were hurt in the attack.
Dep Sup Sewett say police still don't know why she or her children were attacked.
He added that they have recovered Ezedi's mobile phone from the car, which has been "comprehensively analysed" but makes the manhunt more difficult to track him.
The focus of the search remains in south London and Newcastle.
Police believe he has either come to harm and has not been found or someone is looking after him.
Cmdr Savell, also from the Met, said that the manhunt continues at a considerable pace, with hundreds of officers involved - including from counter terrorism.
Ezedi’s last known sighting after leaving Tower Hill tube station on Wednesday, 31 January, the night of the attack.
The public are advised not to approach the suspect and to call the police instead.
