Motorists have been asked to find alternative routes

Emergency services are dealing with a major incident following reports of a bus crash, police have said.

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed the collision took place in the coastal town of Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, with at least 26 people injured.

The road affected, the A484 near the Kidwelly roundabout, is closed.

Motorists have been asked to find alternative routes and two air ambulances are said to have landed at the scene.

A police spokesman said: "Officers are dealing with a major incident in Kidwelly, following a report of a collision involving a bus on the A484 near the Kidwelly roundabout (Parc y Bocs).

"The road is closed between the Kidwelly roundabout at Parc y Bocs and Llandyfaelog, and motorists are asked to find alternative routes."

They added: "Emergency services are on scene and members of the public are asked to stay away from the area until further notice."

One local witness told WalesOnline: "It looks like the bus has flipped onto its back or its side."

They said two air ambulances remain at the scene alongside paramedics, the fire service and police.

In the Welsh Senedd, Government minister Heledd Fychan said: "The Deputy Minister for transport will update the Senedd members accordingly once further information is available."

Hywel Dda Health Board has issued a statement, saying its emergency departments are busy due to the incident, and warned that waiting times would likely be longer as those "with the greatest need" are treated first.

A spokesman said: "Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you need additional support during this time, please help us to help you and get the right care in the right place."

Dame Nia Griffith, MP for Llanelli, which includes Kidwelly, said her thoughts were with those involved.

"My immediate thoughts are with all those people who were involved in the crash, and the emergency services who are helping them", she said.

"I would reiterate the official request for the public to stay away and find alternative routes to the Parc y Bocs roundabout to Llandyfaelog Road."

Kidwelly is set along the banks of the River Gwendraeth.

It is known for its magnificently preserved 12th-century fortress and proximity to scenic Welsh coastlines.
