The 18-year-old faces questioning at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre

An 18-year-old has been arrested after reports of an explosion in Ipswich.

Suffolk Constabulary responded to reports of a suspected blast at Princes Street just before 8.45pm on Friday.

Resident on the street were evacuated from the area as precaution, the police said.

The teenager, who remains in custody, was arrested on suspicion of arson/criminal damage with intent to endanger life, the force said.

He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning - where he remains, according to the most recent Suffolk police statement.

The investigation is in its early stages, but it is believed an aerosol can exploded after being placed on a heat source, the force said.

The building and road were later reopened and residents were allowed to return.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue and the East of England Ambulance were also in at attendance at the scene.

A full probe to establish the circumstances around the incident is underway.
