Greater Manchester Police released a statement on social media

A Manchester school has been put into lockdown following a suspected stabbing by a student.

A pupil from the Co-op Academy on Plant Hill Road in Blackley this morning has been arrested by Greater Manchester Police.

Three people were injured during the incident: a 14-year-old schoolgirl, a 14-year-old schoolboy and a 27-year-old male member of staff.

All were taken to hospital; however, the injuries aren't believed to be serious, police have confirmed.

Students were reportedly told to stay in their classrooms while police arrived at the scene.

Authorities have said there is no wider threat to pupils or staff.

Greater Manchester Police released a statement on social media.

They said: "Officers are currently responding to an incident at a school on Plant Hill Road, Blackley where a schoolgirl has been arrested.

"Three people have been injured however injuries aren't believed to be serious at this time.

"Emergency services remain on scene and we are supporting the school. There is not believed to be any wider threat to the pupils and staff in the school."

The child was taken to hospital as a “precaution” but later discharged.

A 12-year-old girl was arrested before being released under investigation.

The Co-op Academy on Plant Hill Road is a mixed secondary school with students aged between 11 and 16.

The school, which facilitates around 1,650 pupils, was the site of a separate stabbing incident in 2022, when an 11-year-old girl was knifed in the shoulder nearby.

The academy was rated Good in its most recent Ofsted inspection.

The Manchester school has a 229-seat modern theatre, football pitches and a climbing wall.

It also hosts local groups like the 105th Manchester St Peters Scout Group and the Blackley Volunteer Police Cadets.

Chief Inspector Jon Shilvock said: “We understand that this incident will have cause concern to pupils, staff and the wider school community."

He added: “The incident was swiftly and quickly dealt with by staff before officers attending to arrest the girl.

"There is believed to be no wider threat at this time, and we thank everyone for their support as emergency services dealt with this.

“We are not looking anyone further in connection this with this incident. Officers will remain at the school and within the area to provide a visible presence and community reassurance.”
