'I'm fed up with your rudeness on this television show,' Matt Goodwin fumed at Baroness Hayter
Matt Goodwin and Baroness Hayter were embroiled in a furious clash over patriotism and the future of the country, forcing GB News star Michelle Dewberry to intervene.
Appearing on GB News, the row erupted after the Labour peer accused Michelle of “not loving our country”.
The debate began with Matt despairing about Britain’s future after being shown scenes of youths destroying a community flower display.
“I'm absolutely sick of it. Watching what's happening to this country that we all love, that our ancestors built, and we're forced to look at scenes like that every day on social media", he said.
“Nothing ever happens to these people. Nothing happens to the illegal migrants, nothing happens to the shoplifters, nothing happens to these gangs of kids who are bringing out machetes like that's acceptable or destroying their local communities.
“I'm absolutely sick of it. We need politicians in this country to stand up and get control of what is happening in Britain.”
“Well, I'm not sure he does love our country, but never mind,” Baroness Hayter cut in, reprimanding Matt for “talking down” Britain.
An incensed and hurt Matt struck back, asking: “Would you say something like that?”
“Does that not bother you?” He added, referencing the vandalism video.
“What bothers me is your anger and - no, let me finish - your lack of any feeling of love or anything for this country. You say you really love it, but actually you talk it down at every moment.", Ms Hayter responded.
Matt hit back: “I’m not going to let you say that without me having a response!”
“I love this country and, like millions of people in Britain, I'm so exasperated with what is happening to it. You cannot point at people like the left always do and say, you don't really love this country because you're angry about what's happening.
“People on the Left don't love this country because if you did, you wouldn't be subjecting us to this.”
“Stop talking,” Baroness Hayter hit back, adding: “I’m sick of men overtalking me. I’ve had enough of that.”
The GB News star shot back: “I'm fed up with your rudeness on this television show!”
“Throughout all evening, I've been polite and kind. And you have made these accusations based on nothing.
“You don't know me at all, and saying that I don't love this country is an insult.”
The tense scenes forced an intervention from Michelle Dewberry, who warned the guests and instructed them to “get back on track”.
“I'm listening to what you're saying, and it is angry and reducing everything to really simplistic things,” the Labour peer told Matt.
“I also am horrified by that video. I'm horrified by seeing young men being violent, and what worries me. It may start with flowerpots, it may start with broken milk bottles and all of that. But actually this stuff escalates.”
