Emergency services received more than 40 calls about the fire
Hundreds of people have been evacuated from a London underground after a fire broke out.
Emergency services were called to Moorgate station after more than 40 calls were made alerting the fire service to the blaze.
Moorgate Underground station is reportedly closed while around 40 firefighters tackle the fire.
Photos on social media show smoke across the sky as the fire rages on.
Several firetrucks were spotted near to the station with cordons in place while firefighters attend the scene.
London Fire Brigade said: "Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters are responding to a fire in Moorgate.
"Control Officers have taken over 40 calls reporting the incident.
"The Brigade was first called at 11.22am. Crews from Whitechapel, Euston, poplar and surrounding fire stations are in attendance.
One social media user wrote: "Smoke reported near Charterhouse Square near Moorgate area of London, UK."
Another added: "Looks like a major fire in the building above the Rack & Tenter pub at Moorgate. Stinks of plastics."
The City of London Police has tweeted to say: "Moorfields, Wood Street and Fore Street are closed to traffic due to a fire. @LondonFire are at the scene. Pedestrians: please avoid the area."
