A significant shift in National Lottery scratchcards will arrive next month, as operator Allwyn has confirmed plans to double the maximum jackpot prize available to players.
The operator is launching a festive-themed scratchcard named "When It's Gold Outside" designed for the Christmas period.
The new game will offer a top prize of £4million, representing a doubling of the current highest jackpot available on National Lottery scratchcards.
Scratchcard enthusiasts will see enhanced prize opportunities from September onwards, with the festive card specifically timed to benefit retailers during the crucial run-up to Christmas.
Priced at £10 per card, "When It's Gold Outside" provides purchasers with 37 opportunities to secure a win on each individual scratchcard.
The game will feature four separate top-tier prizes of £4million, meaning four players could potentially become National Lottery multi-millionaires through the new offering.
This represents the highest prize point ever available on a National Lottery scratchcard, with multiple winners possible if all four jackpot cards are successfully claimed.
Nikki Vadera, Director of Scratchcards at Allwyn, described the launch as a significant enhancement to the existing portfolio of lottery games.
"We're delighted to be enhancing our National Lottery Scratchcards offer with this truly standout game," she stated.
She emphasised the strategic timing of the release, noting: "'When It's Gold Outside' is being specifically ranged from September onwards to benefit retailers in the lead up to, and during, the festive period."
The operator plans promotional support across multiple channels, with Vadera confirming: "We're supporting the new game across a number of marketing touchpoints, including in-store activations to enhance the launch."
She added the card's design and prize structure position it as an ideal seasonal purchase option for customers.
Beyond the jackpot prizes, the scratchcard features a significant concentration of smaller-value wins at the £10, £15 and £20 levels.
Additional prize amounts between £50 and £500 can be distributed directly by shop staff, according to Allwyn's confirmation.
The structure allowing in-store prize distribution will create opportunities for retailers to generate extra commission income from the new game.
Vadera described the combination of premium presentation and substantial prize offerings as positioning the scratchcard for gift purchases or personal treats.
"The quality look and feel, paired with the generous game-play and prizes on offer, make 'When It's Gold Outside' the perfect gift or special treat for retailers to suggest to their customers," she stated.
Allwyn characterised the launch as a pilot programme aimed at maximising sales for retail partners whilst supporting National Lottery Good Causes.
