Huge fire rips through building and busy roads close down during rush hour as emergency services rush to deal with raging inferno

A huge fire has ripped through a building and busy roads have been closed during rush hours as firefighters battle a blaze in Salford.

The fire tore through a large commercial building on Bury New Road in the early hours of the morning.

Videos show smoke pouring out of the building with emergency services warning residents to "keep doors and windows closed and avoid the area."

Greater Manchester Police Fire and Rescue Service confirmed: "Bury New Road remains closed while crews work to extinguish the fire."

The fire broke out in a building that houses the Marc Darcy suit shop and warehouse.

Their website reads: "Important notice. Due to a fire at our premises, we are temporarily unable to accept any new order.

"We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and will reopen ordering as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding."

Local buses in the area are being affected by the road closure.

The full statement from GMFRS reads: "At around 1:40am this morning (Thursday, 6th August), firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a commercial property on Bury New Road in Salford.

"Eight fire engines from Moss Side, Manchester Central, Salford, Broughton, Philips Park and Blackley fire stations, along with the Scorpion from Salford, a high-volume pump from Cheadle and a turntable ladder from Whitehill fire station, quickly arrived at the scene, where a commercial property measuring approximately 50 metres by 50 metres was well alight.

"Firefighters have been working hard to bring the blaze under control, using two jets, the turntable ladder and the Scorpion to tackle the fire.

"Crews remain in attendance as they continue to work to extinguish the fire and make the area safe.

"Bury New Road is currently closed by GMP and residents are asked to stay away from the area and keep doors and windows closed."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers are on the scene assisting with the road closure.

The Marc Darcy formal wear shop is located at 271-291 Bury New Road.

Local residents have reported hazy conditions this morning, with smoke still lingering in the area.
