US President Donald Trump has led commemorations marking 25 years since the 9/11 terror attacks, delivering a speech at the Pentagon.
Mr Trump pledged “we will never, ever forget” during the solemn remembrance ceremony for the nearly 3,000 people who were killed on September 11, 2001, including 67 Britons.
New York’s once-iconic World Trade Centre towers were levelled during the horrific attacks, undertaken by Islamic extremists under the direction of Osama Bin Laden.
The Pentagon, America’s defence headquarters in Virginia, was also struck by a hijacked plane on the day.
“In 25 years, a generation has passed since the terror attacks,” Mr Trump began, speaking from the building a few miles from the White House.
“Yet time has not dimmed the honour of that day our country came face-to-face with true evil.
“Today we renew the sacred oath that we first swore in their names a quarter of a century ago.
“We will never, ever forget. That's why we fight today.

“No one can ever prepare for a day like 9/11. But we can always choose to be the kind of nation the world saw in those days after.
"We can raise our children to know that their country is good, that their fathers are brave, and that our flag is a symbol of justice and freedom,” he said.
Praising the US military for fighting the war on terror in the decades following the attack, Mr Trump praised American warriors travelling:
“To the darkest corners of the earth and done battle with a shadowy enemy".
He also sought to connect those campaigns with the current Iranian conflict.

“We salute the service members working right now to ensure the world's number one sponsor of terror, the Islamic Republic of Iran, will never, ever have a nuclear weapon,” he said.
Meanwhile in London, US Ambassador Warren Stephens and his wife, Harriet, led the commemorations in the capital's 9/11 memorial gardens.
Mr and Mrs Stephens also spoke of the US-UK bond and the "outpouring of letters and flowers” they had received.
The pair were filmed laying a wreath alongside one that contained a personal message from Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
“In memory of those we lost and in defence of the values we share,” the Prime Minister wrote.
“Whilst we stand together for freedom and democracy, terror will never define us.
