'Along with most of his policies, I wish he'd outlined some details,' tax expert William Yarwood said
Andy Burnham has been urged to subject his proposed tax reforms to greater public scrutiny after the TaxPayers' Alliance warned there are still “lots of unanswered questions” surrounding his plans.
Speaking to GB News, Campaigns Director William Yarwood criticised the Prime Minister for failing to provide enough detail on his proposed council tax revaluation.
Mr Yarwood argued that much of Mr Burnham’s policy agenda currently lacked detail and left taxpayers “in the wind”.
Despite backing the Prime Minister's proposal to scrap stamp duty, he questioned how a new council tax system would work in practice.
“There are lots of unanswered questions here from (Mr) Burnham,” the tax expert said.
Mr Yarwood warned that pensioners living in homes that have risen in value over decades could end up facing significantly higher council tax bills despite having modest incomes.
“Just because they live in very large houses which have increased in value doesn't mean they could possibly afford the council tax on those houses.
“Along with most of his policies, I wish he'd outlined some details and actually talked to the media in more detail so he can have more scrutiny of these policies, because at the moment, with most of these policies, we're kind of just in the wind,” he said.
