'We don’t have good people to vote for anymore,' the entrepreneur and podcaster said
Peter McCormack has warned that Britain is “woefully unprepared for the future”, accusing the country’s political class of failing to confront the economic challenges facing the nation.
Speaking to GB News, the entrepreneur and podcaster said: “We are a great nation, but we are a great nation that is getting poorer and poorer.”
“We are in a very bad state, and we are woefully unprepared for what is coming. And yet we have politicians; I just don't know what they're doing. They're just teetering around the edges rather than dealing head-on with the problem.”
“We just have people with stupid ideas,” Mr McCormack said, arguing that politicians had become increasingly reluctant to acknowledge the consequences of their policies.
Comparing today’s politicians with previous generations, Mr McCormack argued that Westminster was increasingly dominated by people who had followed a narrow career path through university, student politics and local government.
Mr McCormack called for politicians to be paid substantially more to attract people with experience in business and other professions.
“We should be finding the best people in the country,” he said, adding that Britain’s political system was “a mess”.
He warned that the country needed “fundamental change” rather than simply voting harder for existing parties, saying: “I think the whole thing is broken. The whole thing’s a mess. I don’t trust any of them.”
Mr McCormack ultimately called for greater political leadership, saying: “Where is the leadership? Where is the person trying to bring the country together? I don’t see it.”
