The Clacton by-election is expected to take place on August 13
Britons would rather see Count Binface win the Clacton by-election in a blow to Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, a new poll has revealed.
The coastal constituency, which will elect their new MP on August 13, is still likely to return Mr Farage to the House of Commons.
However, a survey of 1,000 British adults conducted by Ipsos found 33 per cent of voters would rather see Count Binface win.
Meanwhile, just 21 per cent hope to see Mr Farage emerge victorious, with 32 per cent not backing either candidate and a further 13 per cent unsure.
Ipsos also found widespread support – 69 per cent – for Count Binface's commitment to restore the price of 99 flakes to 99p.
Voters remain divided on whether the main parties should have stood against Mr Farage, with 32 per cent supporting the boycott and 31 per cent wanting mainstream challengers.
However, almost three-in-four Britons believe the standards investigation into Mr Farage should continue if he emerges victorious next month.
The Clacton by-election is expected to take place on August 13 after Reform UK Chief Whip Lee Anderson moved the writ in the House of Commons.
While it is down to the local authority to organise the specifics of the election, the law states it must take place between 21 and 27 working days from now.
This means the vote will take place between August 7 and August 17.
After Mr Farage announced his resignation last week, the self-described "intergalactic space warrior" put himself up to the job to challenge the Reform UK chief.
Throughout his career, Count Binface has run in a number of by-elections, with Clacton being the latest for the independent candidate.
POLITICS LATEST:
He first entered the political landscape in 2017, standing against Theresa May as Lord Buckethead, a character in a 1984 Star Wars parody film called Hyperspace.
However, filmmaker Todd Durham contacted the then-Lord Buckhead, asserting his ownership of the character, to which the political candidate reinvented himself as Count Binface.
He ran against Boris Johnson in the 2019 General Election and also ran for Mayor of London in 2021, coming in ninth with 24,775 votes.
But Mr Farage currently has no other challenger, admitting he had expected to be put to the test by other mainstream political parties.
But Labour and the Conservatives confirmed they would not stand a candidate in the upcoming Clacton by-election.
Kemi Badenoch said: "We will be standing a candidate in the real by-election, which will follow the standards investigation into Nigel Farage’s fishy finances.
"We will not be standing a candidate in the fake by-election that Farage is causing to distract people from what is happening."
Meanwhile, a Labour spokesman said: "Nigel Farage is engulfed in a sleaze scandal and he’s desperately trying to change the subject. It’s pathetic, and the Labour Party is not going to indulge it."
Restore Britain, the Liberal Democrats and the Greens confirmed they would not field a candidate either.
