Sir Keir Starmer has been dealt a final blow with one last by-election loss as the Prime Minister's time as Labour leader comes to an end.

Katherine Sharp from the Green Party managed to see off competition from Reform's Ryan Gallagher and Labour's Adam Marshall to win the Fletton & Woodston by-election on Peterborough Council.

Labour was also able to hold onto seats in Stafford and Hampshire, while Reform successfully defended a seat in Cambridgeshire, with the Liberal Democrats clinging on in Cherwell.

GB News has broken down the results of the eight by-elections and what they mean for each of the councils.

Fletton & Woodston (Peterborough)

Zack Polanski's party made its second gain in Peterborough as Councillor Sharp secured victory by a margin of 185 votes over her nearest competitor from Reform.

Following the 2024 elections, the ward was held by three Labour councillors but the make up has changed, with two Green councillors and one Reform councillor representing the ward now.

Katherine Sharp of the Green Party received the highest number of votes with 664, followed by Ryan Gallagher of Reform with 479. Adam Marshall of Labour secured 213 votes, while Janet Brown of the Conservative Party received 208.

Lewis Page of the Liberal Democrats got 37 votes, and Jonathan Wilde of Your Party received 11 votes.

The council's makeup is now Conservative 13, Labour (and Co-operative) 11, Liberal Democrats, Peterborough First and Independents all on eight, Greens on seven and Reform UK on five.

Labour MP Andrew Pakes has served the Peterborough constituency since 2024, beating incumbent Conservative MP Paul Bristow with a majority of 118.

Ramsey & Bury (Cambridgeshire)

Reform UK came out on top in Cambridgeshire as Howard Julian Tobias won the Ramsey and Bury seat with 506 votes.

Councillor Tobias is currently already a District Councillor on Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) for the corresponding Ramsey ward.

Independent candidate Steve Corney finished second on 417 votes, narrowly ahead of Conservative candidate Adela Eva Costello, who received 412.

Sharon Anne Docherty of the Liberal Democrats secured 126 votes, while Green candidate Francis William Reid polled 123. Labour's Neil Shailer finished with 118 votes.

The Liberal Democrat group and the Independent group on the council form a joint group called the "Liberal Democrat and Independent" group, with a total of 33 members.

In Westminster, the region is represented by Labour MP Sam Carling, for North West Cambridgeshire, who was elected in July 2024 to become the youngest serving MP, and first ever to be born in the 21st century.

Kidlington West (Cherwell)

Over to Oxfordshire now where the Liberal Democrats managed to hold on to the Kidlington West ward with Lisa Smith winning the ward for Sir Ed Davey's party.

Councillor Smith was elected after topping the poll with 1,427 votes, with Reform UK's Dave Paintin finishing second with 734 votes, followed by Conservative candidate Martin Frederick Bach Phillips on 548.

Green Party candidate Amanda Jane Carpenter received 457 votes.

The electorate for the contest was 7,112, with turnout recorded at 44.73 per cent

Sir Ed Davey's party controls the council with 20 elected members, among a distribution of representation for each major party.

The Liberal Democrats also hold power in Westminster for the region, with Calum Miller serving as the MP for Bicester and Woodstock since July 2024, as well as being the Foreign Affairs Spokesman for the party.

Dereham Toftwood (Breckland)

There was good news for Kemi Badenoch as Conservative Stuart Green defeated Reform UK in Dereham Toftwood on Breckland Council, Norfolk.

Mr Green, who was once the town's youngest ever mayor, beat Reform's candidate, Gokce Shuler who came second with Labour's nominee, Robin Goreham, who collected 172 votes.

He said: "Thank you to the other candidates. Thanks to the small team who supported me, delivering leaflets, knocking on doors etc during a very hot campaign!

The region is represented by the Conservatives in Parliament, with George Freeman MP serving the Mid Norfolk constituency.

Himley & Swindon (South Staffordshire)

Over to the first part of a double Staffordshire showdown where Conservative candidate Sean Massey managed to win the Himley & Swindon by-election.

Reform UK candidate Nigel Caine finished second with 187 votes, followed by Richard Painter on 129. Labour and Co-operative candidate Denis Beaumont received 28 votes.

Green Party candidate Bhanu Dhir polled 22, Independent candidate Gordon Fanthom secured 16, and Liberal Democrat Michael Jones received 10 votes.

There were no rejected ballot papers, and turnout was 32.41 per cent.

Kemi Badenoch's party continue to dominate the council with 27 of the total 40 seats.

The party also has a stake in Westminster, with Mike Wood serving as the Member of Parliament for Kingswinford and South Staffordshire since July 2024.

Manor (Stafford)

Sticking with Staffordshire, Labour managed to hold onto a seat on Stafford Borough Council.

Labour and Co-operative candidate Aaron Thurstance was elected in the Stafford Borough Council Manor ward by-election after securing 481 votes.

Reform UK candidate Ray Barron finished second with 414 votes, followed by Conservative candidate Freddie Crisp on 237.

In last place, Green Party candidate Joe Tunnicliffe received 197 votes.

There were four rejected ballot papers, and turnout was 25.8 per cent.

Labour's Leigh Ingham MP has represented the Stafford constituency since 2024, beating incumbent Conservative Theo Clarke with a majority of 4,595 votes.
