'Years of abuse!' Farage takes brutal swipe at Tories as members admit they want him back

This comes amid growing speculation over Farage's political allegiance, with the former Brexit Party leader choosing to attend the Conservative Party Conference this year for the first time in 30 years

Nigel Farage took a brutal swipe at the Conservative Party, just hours before two-thirds of the party admitted they would allow Farage back into the party if he wanted to join.

A new poll from Conservative Home asked Conservative members if Farage should be readmitted to the party if he were to seek Conservative membership.

Some 72.27 per cent of respondents said yes, while 23.53 per cent said no.

Last week, former Brexit negotiator Lord Frost appeared to welcome Farage into the conservative brand, telling GB News he is a "natural" part of the movement.

But responding to the remarks, Farage said: "After years of being abused by the party it makes for a welcome change."

Asked whether Rishi Sunak should start listening to Farage, given his significant popularity, the former Brexit negotiator said: "Well, I think what Nigel taps into is that.

"Obviously he believes in many of the things I believe in - free markets, low immigration, all these kinds of things and people can see that.

"So he's a natural part of the right movement in this country, which unfortunately has got divided between different parties.

"But, I personally think the more people who are out there arguing for what I think, the better things are."

Speaking at the Conservative Party Conference in October, Sunak suggested he would welcome Nigel Farage back into the Conservative Party.

The PM told GB News the Tory Party is a "broad church", adding that he "welcomes lots of people who want to subscribe to our ideals".
