The Duchess of Sussex's loyal fans came flooding to her defence

Countess Cat Spencer revealed her husband, Earl Charles Spencer, took her to see the grave of his brother on the Sandringham Estate over the weekend.

It comes after Meghan Markle sparked debate by sharing a photo she snapped of Prince Harry, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet walking towards Princess Diana's grave during a family visit to Charles Spencer's Northamptonshire home earlier this month.

Writing on Instagram, Countess Spencer wrote: "Today, @charles.earl.spencer took me to see the grave of his brother, John Spencer, who died just after birth on January 12th 1960.

"He was buried in a quiet corner of the church of St Mary Magdalen, Sandringham, next to their grandfather. A few years ago, Charles had John’s headstone restored.

"The church is right next to Park House, where Charles and his siblings grew up.

"I loved seeing these parts of Norfolk where he had what sounds like a gloriously happy childhood!"

Despite the post receiving over 1,500 likes, the Countess limited comments underneath, leaving only one visible.

That comment reads: "How wonderful that your hubby had the headstone restored. Didn’t even know that was a thing."

Countess Spencer's post follows an online debate triggered by the Duchess of Sussex sharing 11 photos from a recent European trip.

Among them was the photo of Harry, Archie, and Lilibet carrying flowers at the Spencer family’s Althorp Estate.

The image sparked strong reactions across social media, with one critic writing: "Earl Spencer spent nearly 30 years insisting Diana’s burial on an island was about protecting her from exactly what he said had destroyed her: commercialisation.

Another added: "Meghan turned what should have been a private, deeply personal moment, laying flowers at Princess Diana’s grave, into yet another public spectacle. Some moments deserve privacy and respect."

However, others felt the reaction was overblown, with one social media user stating: "I love that Earl Spencer is honouring his brother at his grave and posts it.

"He’s both honouring him and also sending a message to certain chattering detractors who always have something negative to say."

Another defended the family, noting: "Meghan posted pictures from Althorp estate, the Althorp deer park and Althorp gardens.

"Charles Spencer himself posts pictures from his estate on a daily basis on his very public Instagram, and the thousands of visitors every summer post pictures and videos from Althorp.

"Meghan isn't the only one posting pictures and very clearly her family, the Spencers, aren't bothered."
