King Frederik is a familiar face at the All England Club, having attended the Championships on multiple occasions over the years
King Frederik of Denmark was present in the Royal Box at Wimbledon this afternoon to witness Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam winner, take to Centre Court.
The 58-year-old Danish monarch, known for his passion for tennis and frequent attendance at the Championships, was joined by one of his closest companions, Christian von Buchwald.
Seated alongside them in the front row were several distinguished guests from the sporting world.
Sir Andrew Strauss, the former England cricket captain and administrator, attended with his eldest son, Samuel.
British former tennis player and sports executive Deborah Jevans was also present, as was Dr Mark Precious, the former field hockey international and academic.
The friendship between the King of Denmark and von Buchwald stretches back more than four decades to when Frederik was a teenager.
Following his return from boarding school in France at the age of 15, the young prince was paired with von Buchwald as his tennis coach.
Both based in Aarhus, the pair developed a close bond through their mutual enthusiasm for the sport and have remained firm friends ever since.
Von Buchwald, a former elite tennis player, has since pursued a distinguished medical career and now serves as a senior physician and professor of ear, nose and throat surgery at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen's largest public and teaching hospital.
The depth of their friendship was evident when von Buchwald was selected as one of six godparents for Princess Isabella at her 2007 baptism.
His wife Elisabeth, who works as an inspector of court inventory for the royal household, is equally close to the Danish royal family.
During his 2023 visit, while still Crown Prince, he watched the women's singles fourth round encounter between Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia and Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina.
He also took in Danish player Holger Rune's triumph over Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov on No. 1 Court during that tournament.
Last year, Frederik opted for a more understated visit, watching Nicolas Jarry of Chile face Britain's Cameron Norrie on No. 1 Court.
The following day, he sat alongside Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, in the Royal Box.
