Meghan marked Prince Harry's 42nd birthday this morning with an Instagram post featuring several family photographs.

"He's simply the best. Happy birthday, my love," the Duchess of Sussex wrote alongside the images.

The celebratory message arrived just hours after it emerged that the couple have switched schools for their two children, Prince Archie, aged seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, following discussions with their protection team.

The youngsters had been enrolled at a school in England only weeks earlier, after the Sussexes relocated from the United States just over a fortnight ago, but logistical and safety concerns prompted the change.

The demanding commute and congested roads placed considerable pressure on the family's security detail, necessitating the move.

A spokesperson for the Sussexes said: "The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family's security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements."

The spokesman added: "The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family."

The family were also keen to stress that the switch "should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there."

The couple's return to Britain came a little over two weeks ago, with reports suggesting the Duchess may be considering a comeback to her acting career.

Their departure from royal duties dates back to January 2020, when they declared their intention to step away from senior roles, pursue financial independence, and divide their time between the UK and North America whilst continuing to support the late Queen.

However, the Sandringham Summit, convened to address the crisis, resulted in Queen Elizabeth II determining that a part-time arrangement was not workable.

King Charles has since confirmed that this position remains unchanged.

The school switch followed a reported gathering last week of the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures, known as Ravec, the body tasked with determining security provisions for members of the Royal Family.

Prince Harry is currently awaiting the outcome of a threat assessment carried out by the Risk Management Board, while Ravec is expected to rule on whether the Sussex family qualifies for state-funded protection now that they are based in the UK.

The committee's chairman contacted the Duke of Sussex last week to confirm that new, separate risk assessments had been commissioned for both him and the Duchess of Sussex, reflecting their altered circumstances.
