The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appear to have put down roots in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds following their return to England earlier this summer, six years after departing for California and stepping back from royal duties.

Speculation about the couple's new home has intensified after members of Soho Farmhouse, the exclusive countryside retreat in north Oxfordshire, reported seeing Meghan Markle arrive for an early morning coffee.

Royalist journalist Tom Sykes claimed that the Duchess was observed entering the Comfy Farm lounge shortly before 9am, where senior staff greeted her by name.

The sprawling 100-acre club boasts a luxury spa, 40 private guest cabins and an indoor-outdoor swimming pool, making it one of the most sought-after celebrity destinations in the English countryside. It has long been a favourite haunt of A-listers including Taylor Swift, Kate Moss, Tom Cruise and Harry Styles.

If the Sussexes are indeed living near the club, they will find themselves surrounded by some of Britain's most famous faces. The Beckhams own a property within walking distance of Soho Farmhouse and are frequently spotted dining and strolling through its grounds.

Harry and Meghan are no strangers to the area, having previously rented a home in Great Tew, a picturesque village of thatched cottages situated close to the Beckham residence.

Sir Paul McCartney is also a regular visitor, often with his daughter Stella, the fashion designer, who owns a nearby home.

Geri Halliwell-Horner and her husband, the Formula One team principal Christian Horner, are another potential neighbouring couple, occupying a £9million former vicarage in Banbury.

The Horners are known animal lovers whose estate features miniature donkeys among other creatures. According to the Telegraph, the Sussexes left their rescue chickens behind in Montecito but planned to bring their dogs to England.

Their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, have been registered at a local school ahead of the new term. Parents at one school in the area have reportedly received letters urging them to respect the privacy of fellow families, with specific instructions not to photograph or share information about other children or parents.

The move towards a settled life in the Cotswolds received formal backing from the Palace on Monday, when King Charles wrote to the Government confirming that the couple would hold the status of private citizens in the United Kingdom. The King stated this arrangement would afford them "personal latitude in respect of financial independence and protection of their privacy as they would wish".

Local newspapers in the Cotswolds have been tracking the royal return, with growing chatter in the community about the family's relocation to the region.

Soho House holds deep personal significance for the Duchess. In his memoir Spare, Harry revealed that the Dean Street venue served as "her headquarters whenever she came to London," adding: "Sometimes she just left her luggage at Soho House for weeks. They stored it without question. The people there were like family."

The couple's relationship began there, with their first date taking place at the members' club.

Meghan's ties to the brand extend through her close friendship with Soho House executive Markus Anderson, who is believed to have opened doors to London's social elite during her 2016 visit.

The pair first met in Canada in 2011 while she was filming Suits. During that same London trip, she was photographed cycling around Soho Farmhouse with Made in Chelsea's Millie Mackintosh, and she later held her hen party at the retreat in 2018.

The venue's rigorous privacy protections, including a strict ban on photography and the recent prohibition of Meta glasses, make it a natural sanctuary for the couple.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie also frequent the club, raising the prospect of family reunions; Eugenie was notably the first royal to visit Harry and Meghan after their transatlantic move.

Prince Harry has a number of charitable commitments lined up in Britain, among them the WellChild awards ceremony in London later this month.

He is also preparing for the Invictus Games, which are scheduled to take place in Birmingham next summer.

Meghan, meanwhile, may be eyeing a return to acting. She recently admitted she "sometimes" missed her former career and enjoyed the atmosphere of working with a crew during the production of her Netflix cookery programme.

The Oxfordshire countryside has long held a special appeal for the couple.

In Spare, Harry wrote: "We thought we could move into Oxfordshire full-time. We loved it out there. The air fresh, the verdant grounds plus, no paps."

The Sussexes reportedly used the Cotswolds as their base during a visit to see King Charles earlier this year, and had also rented in the area while still serving as working royals.
