The father-of-two lives in Surrey with his wife, Sophie, The Duchess of Edinburgh

Prince Edward has released a video promoting the Duke of Edinburgh Award, just days after Buckingham Palace's blunder in the Court Circular, the official daily record of all official engagements carried out by British royals.

In the footage, the Duke of Edinburgh encouraged viewers to "click and spread the word," expressing hope that greater involvement could lead to "a cleaner world" and increased awareness of the award scheme.

The video appearance came after Buckingham Palace made an uncommon error in its official Court Circular on June 20.

The erroneous entry, which was meant to refer to Prince Edward, The Duke of Edinburgh, instead stated: "The Earl of Wessex, Colonel, Scots Guards, this morning attended the Regimental Gathering at Somme Barracks, Catterick Garrison."

Prince Edward is the person who holds the ceremonial position of Colonel of the Scots Guards, not his teenage son, James, Earl of Wessex.

Journalist Richard Eden first spotted the slip, posting on social media: "A rare error in the Court Circular, issued by Buckingham Palace.

"It is the Duke of Edinburgh, not his son, the Earl of Wessex, who is Colonel of the Scots Guards."

Royal enthusiasts quickly identified the mix-up and circulated screenshots across social media platforms.

The teenager holds no military appointments whatsoever. Every Court Circular entry typically undergoes thorough verification before being published.

Prince Edward received the appointment as Colonel of the Scots Guards from King Charles in 2024.

He succeeded his first cousin once-removed, the Duke of Kent, who had occupied the ceremonial position for five decades before relinquishing it.

The transfer of this military affiliation formed part of wider changes to royal ceremonial roles following the King's accession to the throne.

James, 18, who inherited the Earl of Wessex title when his father became Duke of Edinburgh in March 2023, recently made his Royal Ascot debut with his mother Sophie.

The young earl is currently finishing his A-levels at Radley College.

James has remained largely out of public view throughout his youth, though he attended Peter and Harriet Phillips's Cotswolds wedding earlier this month.

Royal observers noted he appeared noticeably taller than both his parents as he entered All Saints' Church. His post-education plans have not been disclosed.
