Kensington Palace released a new picture to celebrate the special milestone this morning

Prince George is the spitting image of his father, Prince William, in the new portrait released by Kensington Palace, fans have said.

As is now tradition, the Prince and Princess of Wales posted a new photo of the young prince for his 13th birthday this morning.

He can be seen wearing a smart, navy suit, looking casual with his top button undone and hands in his pockets as he leans on a black railing in the background.

The image was captured by photographer Matt Porteous shortly after last month's Trooping the Colour ceremony.

William and Catherine posted the photograph this morning alongside a straightforward caption: "Happy 13th Birthday, George!"

Fans have been quick to spot the similarities between George and his father, William, when he was the same age.

"You've grown up so much, George, you look just like your father and Charles Spencer," one fan wrote.

Another said: "George 13th already?! Time flies. You look like your uncle, your mom, and your dad."

A third added: "Happy birthday to Prince George!! Looking like a King already."

Kensington Palace also shared beach footage captured during their Easter getaway to Cornwall to celebrate George's milestone birthday.

In the clip, filmed in the south west of England, George can be seen sporting sunglasses while waving and grinning at the camera, batting in a game of beach cricket, and scrambling over rocks without shoes alongside his younger brother Prince Louis.

His parents posted the footage on social media with the message: "Thank you for all the birthday wishes for George today!"

Like his father, as George turns 13 he prepares to up sticks and move to Eton College, the esteemed all-boys institution in Windsor.

Both William and Prince Harry were educated there during their youths.

He will arrive on September 8 alongside friends from Lambrook and familiar faces from the prep-school sporting circuit.

But the similarities between the pair do not end there; George is known to love football - having many birthday parties themed on the sport - and is often spotted attending Aston Villa games with his father.

George also showed his enthusiasm for the RAF in a recent trip to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire alongside his mother, where he was captured entering the cockpit of a fighter jet looking remarkably composed.

The young prince has been taking private flying lessons, with William revealing his eldest son's admiration for the RAF in 2024, claiming that George is a "potential pilot in the making."
