The Princess of Wales chose to attend the launch alongside her husband to demonstrate her personal backing for the initiative
Prince William has arrived in Liverpool alongside the Princess of Wales for a poignant royal engagement.
The Prince of Wales is unveiling a new suicide prevention resource at Hill Dickinson stadium, bringing together the worlds of sport and mental health in a landmark initiative.
The toolkit, titled 'On Your Side', has been created by The Royal Foundation in collaboration with the British Standards Institution and the charity Chasing the Stigma.
Its central aim is to harness the influence of the sporting sector to boost awareness around suicide prevention and empower people to have open conversations about the subject.
The Prince of Wales is gathering figures from across the sporting landscape for the launch event.
Among those present at the event are Dame Kelly Holmes MBE, broadcaster Gabby Logan OBE, boxer Campbell Hatton, former Lioness Jill Scott MBE and Dame Laura Kenny.
A roster of major sporting bodies have pledged their support as toolkit champions, including the Football Association, the Premier League, England Rugby, British Cycling, the British Horseracing Authority, Paralympics GB, Team GB and the Women's Super League.
The Royal Foundation has also released a short film designed to give people confidence to initiate conversations about suicide.
It features England captain Harry Kane, Formula 1 driver George Russell, two-weight world champion boxer Carl Frampton, GB basketball international Kofi Josephs, Women's Rugby World Cup winner Rocky Clark, champion combat sports athlete Ruqsana Begum and former elite jockey George Baker.
Mental health has been a cause deeply important to both the Prince and Princess for a considerable period.
Today's event represents a significant continuation of The Royal Foundation's longstanding commitment to mental health, a cause the couple have championed over many years and intend to keep advancing well into the future.
Research commissioned by The Royal Foundation found that whilst goodwill exists across sport, efforts remain fragmented, inconsistent and under-resourced, with grassroots clubs particularly lacking clear guidance.
In a speech at the event, the Prince of Wales will say: "My hope is that every sporting organisation in the country will look at what is being launched today and ask a question: 'What more can we do?' Because the opportunity before us is enormous.
"Sport has the ability to reach people who may never walk through the door of a mental healthcare service. People who may never seek support themselves and may be struggling in silence. The sporting community can help change that."
Whilst Hazel Detsiny, Executive Director of The Royal Foundation, said: "This toolkit is the first of its kind, uniting the sector across all sports and at every level, with the aim of bringing about meaningful change."
