The Duke of Sussex has maintained his involvement with the charity since moving to California with Meghan

A construction worker died after falling at Birmingham Children's Hospital on Friday morning, just 24 hours after the Duke of Sussex had visited the same facility.

West Midlands Police were called to the scene shortly before 9:50am on July 10 following reports of a man falling from the building.

"The man was sadly confirmed dead a short time later, and our thoughts are with his loved ones," police stated.

The individual had been working on a construction project operated by BSN Group when the fatal incident occurred.

Authorities confirmed they are coordinating with the Health and Safety Executive as their investigation proceeds.

BSN Group released a statement acknowledging the tragedy at their worksite.

"We are saddened to confirm that a person has died following an incident at our construction site at Birmingham Children's Hospital on Friday, 10 July," a company spokesman told Birmingham Live.

"Our thoughts are with their family, friends and colleagues at this extremely difficult time," the spokesman continued.

He added: "We take health and safety very seriously, and we are assisting the police, the Health and Safety Executive and all relevant authorities with their inquiries."

The company declined to provide additional details while investigations remain ongoing.

Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Trust separately confirmed support was being offered to those affected by the incident.

The fatal incident occurred merely a day after Prince Harry had been at Birmingham Children's Hospital marking two decades of the WellChild Nurse programme.

The Duke of Sussex has maintained his involvement with the charity since moving to California with Meghan Markle and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Matt James, WellChild's chief executive, reflected on the royal visit to People: "We are celebrating 20 years of the program this year, and to celebrate that with the Duke, who has contributed to that work, was a really special moment."
