The couple began dating in 2018, including attending Princess Eugenie's wedding that year

Prince Philippos and Princess Nina of Greece have become first-time parents after welcoming a baby boy through a gestational carrier in the United States on July 27.

The child has been given the name Kimon Thomas Konstantinos, according to a statement released by the office of the former Greek Royal Family.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2020, are now savouring their earliest days as a trio.

"Nina and Philippos are cherishing these first precious weeks together with Kimon and feel immensely happy to begin this new family chapter with their son," the statement said.

The new parents also expressed deep appreciation towards the surrogate and her family for their role in the journey.

The baby's name carries meaningful family connections on both sides. Kimon's middle name Thomas honours Nina's father, Thomas Flohr, while Konstantinos serves as a tribute to Philippos's late father, King Constantine, who died in 2023.

In their official announcement, the couple made a point of acknowledging those who helped bring their son into the world.

"Nina and Philippos extend their sincere gratitude to the surrogate and her family for accompanying them throughout this special journey," the statement read, adding that they also wished to thank "the medical team and key professionals for their care and support."

The pair began their relationship in 2018, with one of their earliest public outings together being the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.

They married in 2020, though pandemic restrictions meant only their parents could attend the intimate ceremony.

A grander celebration followed on October 23, 2021, when they exchanged vows in a Greek Orthodox service at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens.

The occasion drew a host of European royals, among them Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Queen Sofía of Spain, and Princess Eugenie.

Prince Philippos, the youngest son of King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie, is also notable as a godson of the late Princess Diana.

Following the abolition of the Greek monarchy in 1973, the Royal Family lost both their citizenship and property.

King Constantine turned down a 1994 proposal to restore their citizenship, as it came with the stipulation that the family adopt a surname.

In December 2024, Philippos and his siblings, Princess Alexia, Crown Prince Pavlos, Prince Nikolaos and Princess Theodora, together with Pavlos's five children, opted to take Greek citizenship under the surname De Grèce.

Though the family made London their home after leaving Greece, Philippos and Nina have been based in New York City since 2018.

He works in finance and serves as a director of the Anne-Marie Foundation, his mother's charity.
