A Ghanaian witch doctor who claimed to have placed a hex on Harry Kane has announced he has lifted the spell following England's goalless World Cup draw with Ghana on Tuesday evening.
Nana Kwaku Bonsam, who styles himself as "the most powerful spiritualist in the whole world," declared in a Facebook video that the England captain is now free from his supernatural intervention.
"I am now going to release Harry Kane so that he can score in the next match for England," Bonsam stated.
The self-proclaimed spiritualist, also known as The Devil of Wednesday, had revealed before kick-off in Boston that he was "working on" the Three Lions striker.
Harry Kane missed a huge opportunity in the second half | REUTERSKane endured a frustrating evening in Boston, squandering a gilt-edged opportunity in the dying minutes when Nico O'Reilly's header struck the woodwork and fell into his path, only for the captain to fire his shot over the crossbar.
The miss, wholly out of character for one of world football's most clinical finishers, sparked a frenzy across social media, with supporters joking that Bonsam's supposed hex had proved effective.
Prior to the match, the witch doctor had told the Daily Star: "I am working on Harry Kane.
"I have shown what I am capable of before, so I know what work I must do to stop him."
Bonsam is no stranger to bold claims regarding football's biggest stars, having previously asserted that he was responsible for Cristiano Ronaldo's knee injury during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
In his video posted following the Boston stalemate, the witch doctor appeared to conduct a ritual involving various objects whilst announcing Kane's release from the spell.

"Harry, I will come and visit you. Don't be offended. We are friends," Bonsam added in his message to the England skipper.
Thomas Tuchel's side now face Panama on Saturday in their final group stage fixture, with Kane presumably unburdened by supernatural forces.
World-renowned psychic Uri Geller had pledged to counteract Bonsam's hex before the match, vowing to deploy his powers in Kane's defence.

"I will cancel it; I can do that. Before the match, I will send vibrations," Geller told the Daily Star. "I will activate all my powers, all my energy, all my know-how to stop his negative vibrations from hitting Harry Kane."
Despite Geller's efforts, Kane failed to trouble the scorers and made little impression on proceedings.
Pundits were critical of England's lacklustre performance, with some suggesting Tuchel's men were fortunate to escape with a point, though most believe they remain well positioned to progress from the group.
