Jordan Henderson's 2026 World Cup campaign has come to an abrupt end after the England midfielder fractured his wrist in a bizarre incident during post-match celebrations in Mexico City.
The veteran sustained the injury whilst attempting to navigate advertising boards following the Three Lions' thrilling 3-2 triumph over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium.
Medical staff rushed to attend to the 36-year-old on the pitch, where he was administered oxygen before being removed on a stretcher.
The Brentford player was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where doctors confirmed he would require an operation.

Henderson stayed behind in the Mexican capital with a member of England's medical team whilst his teammates flew back to their Kansas City base.
The incident unfolded as Henderson attempted to hop back over the perimeter advertising boards after celebrating with supporters at the final whistle.
The midfielder, who had been an unused substitute during the match, lost his footing and came down heavily on his arm.
Teammates immediately gathered around the stricken player as medical personnel provided treatment on the turf. The severity of the situation became apparent when oxygen was required and a stretcher was called for.
Henderson was accompanied to a Mexico City hospital by a member of England's backroom staff.
Assessments at the facility confirmed the break would necessitate surgical intervention, ending any hopes of further participation in the tournament.

England's preparations for Saturday's quarter-final clash with Norway in Miami have been complicated by Henderson's absence.
Though the experienced midfielder was not expected to play a significant role in the knockout rounds, his departure further limits Thomas Tuchel's squad options.

Reece James remains sidelined with a hamstring problem that has kept him out of three matches, whilst Jarell Quansah serves a suspension following his dismissal against Mexico.
Tuchel spoke of his conflicting emotions after the victory, stating: "It's a very special night for us. Mixed feelings because I am exhausted and emotional, but sad because Jordan injured his wrist."
Henderson's tournament involvement amounted to merely six minutes, appearing as a late substitute during England's 2-0 Group L win against Panama.
