Check out all today's World Cup coverage from GB News below

The brightest stars of the World Cup all shone last night on a remarkable evening of firsts.

Lionel Messi joined Miroslav Klose at the top of the all-time World Cup record goalscorers list with a hat-trick against Algeria.

That was after superstar Kylian Mbappe netted two - including a potential goal of the tournament - against Senegal to rise to joint-fourth in the all-time rankings,

While Erling Haaland made a swashbuckling tournament debut, smashing a brace past Iraq as Norway made their mark on the world stage for the first time in 28 years.

France ran out 3-1 winners over Senegal, before Norway won 4-1 against Iraq.

Full time in Kansas City saw Argentina notch a 3-0 win against Algeria, while Austria saw off World Cup debutants 3-1.

Attention now turns to day seven - as England finally enter the fray.

We'll bring you all the latest updates from Portugal vs DR Congo at 6pm, England vs Croatia at 9pm, Ghana vs Panama at midnight then Uzbekistan vs Colombia at 3am.

Day six results in full

Full-time in all four games now, and the results are as follows:

France 3-1 Senegal

Iraq 1-4 Norway

Argentina 3-0 Algeria

Austria 3-1 Jordan

FULL-TIME: Austria 3-1 Jordan

Despite a spirited performance from Jordan, the World Cup debutants sink to a 3-1 loss to a stuttering Austria.

Goals from Schmid, Arnautovic and an own-goal from Yazan Al-Arab were enough to eventually see off the Jordanians - who were on level terms for the best part of the second half thanks to Ali Olwan.

GOAL! Austria 3-1 Jordan

And that seals it. Marko Arnautovic finally gets his goal. The Red Star Belgrade man buries his spot-kick into the bottom-left corner and wraps up a vital three points for Austria. They'll now know that even a point against Algeria or Argentina will surely see them into the knockouts.

GOAL! Austria 2-1 Jordan

Austria retake the lead! It's former Inter Milan and Stoke City ace Marko Arnautovic with the goal.

It comes just minutes after Arnautovic had a goal ruled out - but this one definitively stands, though it'll be counted as an own goal for Jordanian defender Yazan Al-Arab.

GOAL! Austria 1-1 Jordan

And it's Jordan who have just stunned Austria with their first EVER World Cup goal.

Ali Olwan, who plies his trade for Al-Sailiya in Qatar, has just curled in a fantastic effort to bring his side back on level terms.

Jordan are the 63rd-ranked team in the world. Austria are the 24th. Could this be the start of another historic upset against a European side?

We're back underway in Santa Clara

We're back underway for the final 45 minutes of this action-packed night.

Austria lead 1-0. We'll bring you all the latest updates as they come in...

HALF-TIME: Austria 1-0 Jordan

Romano Schmid

Romano Schmid's stunner separates the two sides at the break

|

REUTERS

Austria lead at the break, but Jordan certainly aren't down and out.

The World Cup debutants are no mugs - and are very much still in the tie at the half.

Forward Mousa Al Tamari is causing Austria all sorts of problems - though so far, Austria's defence have done enough to stop him from shooting.

It's Romano Schmid's stunner which separates the pair after 45 minutes.

GOAL! Austria 1-0 Jordan

Austria lead through a stunning strike from Romano Schmid!

The 26-year-old receives the ball on the edge of the box and unleashes an absolute rocket into the top-right corner.

It's his fourth goal for his country - and one which has put them on their way to a first win since 1990 at a World Cup.

KICK-OFF: Austria vs Jordan

We're underway in Santa Clara, California, for the final game of this mega matchday.

There may be fewer stars on show as Austria take on Jordan - but if last night's fixtures are anything to go by, the lower-billed games can be the most entertaining...

World Cup goalscorers: Where does Messi rank?

Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi netted his first-ever World Cup hat-trick against Algeria

|

REUTERS

After Lionel Messi netted his first-ever World Cup hat-trick, here's how the top five record goalscorers ranking looks.

1 - Miroslav Klose and Lionel Messi (16);

3 - Ronaldo Nazario (15);

4 - Gerd Muller and Kylian Mbappe (14).

Of the stars of this summer's tournament, Harry Kane has eight World Cup goals, coming in at joint-26th.

Three more would move him clear of Gary Lineker as England's all-time record holder at the tournament.

Both Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo also both have eight apiece - with CR7 set to start against DR Congo this afternoon.

Austria vs Jordan line-ups announced

Austria: Schlager; Alaba (C), Lienhart, Posch; Laimer, Seiwald, Schlager, Mwene; Sabitzer, Schmid, Kalajdzic.

Jordan: Abu Laila; Abu Taha, Abualnadi, Al-Arab, Nasib, Haddad (C); Fakhouri, Rawabdeh, Al-Rashdan, Tamari; Olwan.

FULL-TIME: Argentina 3-0 Algeria

What a night in Kansas City. Lionel Messi has single-handedly downed Algeria to become the all-time World Cup record goalscorer, equal with Miroslav Klose.

It ends 3-0 to the World Champions - but day six isn't over yet.

Austria vs Jordan is just minutes away...

GOAL! Argentina 3-0 Algeria

It's a hat-trick for Lionel Messi.

The magic man has just scored a stunner to take him to 16 goals at World Cup finals, equalling German Miroslav Klose's record.

One more will secure the world champion a solo world record, though it won't be today.

Messi goes off for Nico Paz just moments after his hat-trick heroics.

GOAL! Argentina 2-0 Algeria

It's him again! Lionel Messi pounces on Alexis Mac Allister's spilled long-range shot to coolly slot the rebound into the bottom corner.

Argentina now lead 2-0 thanks to Messi's brace.

It's been a day of doubles - the captain joins Haaland and Mbappe in netting two today. And there could still be more...

Back underway in Kansas City...

And we're back for the second half.

Argentina are a goal to a good - and will be hoping to avoid a similar early embarrassment to the one they suffered at the last World Cup when they lost 2-1 to Saudi Arabia in the group stage.

Though the Argentines might hope history does repeat itself. They eventually managed to turn their fortunes around in 2022 and achieve the small feat of football's greatest prize...

HALF-TIME: Argentina 1-0 Algeria

Half-time here in Kansas City, and Lionel Messi's goal is the difference.

The Argentines haven't looked as threatening since the water break - with Emi Martinez called upon to save a number of strong Algeria chances.

It's all to play for in the second half. Could ex-Premier League ace Riyad Mahrez come on and be the hero?

GOAL! Argentina 1-0 Algeria

Argentina take the lead - and in a day which has seen main men Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe find the net, is it any surprise Lionel Messi has joined in on the fun?

Rodrigo De Paul slices through the Algerian defence with a fantastic through ball, which Messi pounces upon outside the box with a fantastic strike to put his nation in the lead!

KICK-OFF: Argentina vs Algeria

We're underway in Kansas City! Lionel Messi's Argentina are kicking off their quest to retain their world title against Algeria.

We'll bring you all the latest updates as they come in...

Argentina vs Algeria line-ups announced

Argentina: Martinez; Medina, Martinez, Romero, Montiel; De Paul, Fernandez, Mac Allister; Almada, Martinez, Messi (C).

Algeria: Zidane; Ait-Nouri, Bensebaini, Mandi (C), Belghali; Chaibi, Bentaleb, Boudaoui, Moussa; Gouiri, Maza.

FULL-TIME: Iraq 1-4 Norway

Full-time in Foxborough sees Norway make a triumphant return to World Cup football with a 4-1 win.

A brace from Erling Haaland, then goals from Leo Ostigard and Kristian Thorstvedt handed the Norwegians a dream start to this year's tournament.

But that's not to downplay a spirited performance from underdogs Iraq, who scored a dramatic leveller in the first half to equal things up.

Next up: Argentina vs Algeria, with the world champions looking to defend their title.

GOAL! Iraq 1-4 Norway

Norway have a fourth! What looks to have been a Thorstvedt effort has been chalked down as an own goal.

GOAL! Iraq 1-3 Norway

Norway have a third! It's the substitute centre-back Ostigard who heads home Martin Odegaard's corner.

That should be Norway on their way to a famous World Cup return - barring something extraordinary from Iraq.

HALF-TIME: Iraq 1-2 Norway

Norway lead at the break here thanks to star man Erling Haaland. Iraq almost scored an extraordinary goal just before time but it just fizzed over the crossbar.

They've proven to be a much more formidable opponent than onlookers - and Norway themselves - had expected. It's all to play for in the next 45!

GOAL! Iraq 1-2 Norway

That didn't last long. It's Erling Haaland again to rocket Norway back in front from close range just before the end of the first half. If there was one man Iraq didn't want in the box...

GOAL! Iraq 1-1 Norway

How about that! Iraq are back on terms. Norway had looked overwhelming after the first drinks break, but Aymen Hussein has just brought his nation level with their second-ever World Cup goal. Game on!

GOAL! Iraq 0-1 Norway

It's 1-0, and it's Erling Haaland with the goal - Norway's first at a World Cup for 28 years.

The towering Manchester City man powers in a cross from the left and finishes with ease. Could this be the first of many for the Norwegians?

KICK-OFF!

Iraq vs Norway is underway - with Premier League stars Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard looking to make an impression on the international stage for the very first time against an unfancied Iraq.

We'll bring you all the latest updates as they come in...

Iraq: Hassan, Doski, Hashim, Tahseen, Ali, Jasim, Ismael, Al-Ammari, Bayesh, Al-Hamadi, Hussein.

FULL TIME: France 3-1 Senegal

Two goals in the last few moments, and Mbappe's is out of this world.

Ibrahim Mbaye scored Senegal's goal, with an excellent run as he blasted a strike at Maignan, who got two hands to the ball but parried it into his own net.

The comeback did not last long as Mbappe picked up the ball 35 yards from Senegal's net.

He launches one from distance and hits an absolute stunner past Edouard Mendy, who had no chance.

Best goal of the tournament so far and caps off an incredible game, France claim all three points. 3-1.

GOAL: France 2-0 Senegal

Bradley Barcola

Bradley Barcola brilliantly chipped over Edouard Mendy

Straight off the bench and on the scoresheet. PSG's Bradley Barcola who has just came on for Ousmane Dembele makes a fantastic run in behind the Senegal defence.

The 23-year-old has the ball rolled into his path and beautifully chips over Edouard Mendy.

Feels like game, set, match now for France, who had to bide their time, but seem to be getting this over the line.

GOAL: France 1-0 Senegal

An historic goal scored by Kylian Mbappe, who now overtakes Pele, in the all-time World Cup record goalscorers.

A cultured finish by the Real Madrid star, spinning himself in behind and tucking a right-footed strike past Edouard Mendy.

It felt like a goal was coming, and there is no surprise who the goalscorer is. 1-0.

SECOND HALF: France 0-0 Senegal - NO penalty to France

An hour played and we have the big moment.

Sadio Mane brings down Kylian Mbappe inside the penalty area, and after a VAR check, we do not have a penalty.

According to the referee, Mbappe initiated the contact. Looked stonewall to everyone in the ground, a huge decision. 0-0.

HALF TIME: France 0-0 Senegal

There is nothing to separate France and Senegal\u200b

There is nothing to separate France and Senegal

REUTERS

Nothing to separate France and Senegal after the first half as we go in at half-time 0-0.

Despite the star-power of Kylian Mbappe, Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Michael Olise in the France front four, Edouard Mendy and his defensive unit have held strong.

Senegal have even had the best chances of the game after Nicolas Jackson hit the post and Ismaila Sarr putting an effort of the bar.

Can't see this game ending 0-0, feels like a goal is brewing. Which way it will go, time will tell.

France 0-0 Senegal: Nicolas Jackson with the best chance so far

End of the first quarter or, play has stopped for the hydration break.

Nicolas Jackson has had the best chance of the first 25 minutes, spinning in behind and fizzing a strike at Mike Maignan's goal.

His strike hits the post and deflects off the goalkeeper behind for a corner, which results to nothing.

Entertaining start, scoreline does not do it justice. 0-0.

KICK OFF: France 0-0 Senegal

This is going to be an entertaining one.

Why has Tuchel gone for Chalobah?

The connection between Thomas Tuchel and Trevoh Chalobah dates back to their time together at Chelsea.

After spending several years gaining experience on loan with clubs including Huddersfield Town, Ipswich Town and Lorient, Chalobah returned to Stamford Bridge ahead of the 2021-22 season.

It was Tuchel who handed the defender his senior Chelsea debut in the UEFA Super Cup against Villarreal.

The Blues, fresh from winning the Champions League, drew 1-1 before prevailing on penalties to lift the trophy, marking the start of Chalobah's first-team breakthrough under the German coach.

Confirmation that Livramento is out

It's now official that Tino Livramento will miss the rest of England's World Cup campaign after being ruled out with a calf injury.

The Newcastle defender suffered the setback during training on Sunday, with the FA confirming he will leave the squad and return home.

England boss Thomas Tuchel has moved quickly to replace him, calling up Trevoh Chalobah.

The Chelsea defender, who has one senior England cap, will join the squad after Wednesday's opener against Croatia.

Livramento's withdrawal is a cruel blow after he battled previous injury problems to earn a place at his first major tournament.

FA provide insight into Thomas Tuchel's future

Thomas Tuchel will be judged on results despite signing a new England contract through to Euro 2028, according to FA chief executive Mark Bullingham.

Bullingham revealed the German's deal contains performance-related clauses, though he declined to disclose specific details.

Tuchel was originally appointed with the objective of delivering World Cup success and recently agreed a two-year extension beyond this summer's tournament.

Bullingham also suggested the FA retains significant control over the arrangement, insisting they can hold Tuchel to his contract.

England's World Cup preparations have been dealt a significant blow with Tino Livramento set to miss the tournament through injury.

The Newcastle defender has reportedly suffered a calf tear and is set to return home for rehabilitation, with the FA yet to officially confirm the setback.

The timing is particularly frustrating for Thomas Tuchel, coming just a day before England's opener against Croatia.

Although unlikely to start, Livramento was viewed as an important squad option.

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is now expected to be drafted in as cover.

Thomas Tuchel makes admission as England players fear racist abuse

England boss Thomas Tuchel has admitted he cannot stop players from being targeted by racist abuse online during the World Cup.

The 52-year-old has called for his squad to try and stay off social media for the duration of the tournament, calling it the healthiest option for the team.

His comments came ahead of England's opening Group L clash with Croatia on Wednesday evening.

The Champions League-winning manager said: "I cannot protect them from social media abuse. I would love to protect them and switch off all their phones... that is a solution, but that is maybe not the solution."

Portugal star defends going to the beach ahead of opening game

Portugal midfielder Matheus Nunes has defended his country's World Cup preparations after criticism over players spending time on the beach ahead of their opener against DR Congo.

Portuguese media questioned whether stars including Cristiano Ronaldo were taking things too easily in Florida, but Nunes insisted the beach sessions are a deliberate part of adapting to local conditions.

The Manchester City midfielder explained that players visit the beach in the mornings to acclimatise to the heat before completing normal training sessions later in the day.

Nunes stressed Portugal are fully focused on their World Cup campaign despite the scrutiny.

Iran boss says his side are the 'most oppressed' at the World Cup

Iran boss Amir Ghalenoei has launched a scathing attack on the treatment of his team at the World Cup, claiming they are the "most oppressed" side at the tournament.

Despite earning a hard-fought 2-2 draw with New Zealand, Ghalenoei expressed frustration over travel arrangements that forced Iran to leave Los Angeles immediately after the match.

The head coach also highlighted logistical challenges caused by ongoing political tensions, saying the squad had been denied adequate recovery time and support staff.

Ghalenoei insisted decisions were being made without explanation, leaving Iran facing significant obstacles as they pursue qualification from Group G.

Emma Hayes praises Cape Verde draw as a 'victory for immigration'

Emma Hayes described Cape Verde's stunning World Cup draw with Spain as "a victory for immigration" after the tournament debutants produced one of the shocks of the competition.

The former Chelsea boss praised the diverse backgrounds within the Cape Verde squad following their disciplined 0-0 draw with the European champions.

Hayes insisted the result was fully deserved, highlighting the team's organisation, aggression and tactical discipline throughout the contest.

Her comments came after Cape Verde frustrated Spain for 90 minutes to claim a historic point.

The result has boosted hopes of a remarkable run to the knockout stages in their first-ever World Cup appearance.

Rafael van der Vaart triggers backlash

Rafael van der Vaart has sparked backlash after making a joke about Japan's players during live World Cup coverage of the Netherlands' 2-2 draw with Japan.

Working as a pundit for Dutch broadcaster NOS, the former Tottenham and Real Madrid midfielder quipped that Japan's players "look alike" while analysing a late equaliser from Daichi Kamada.

The remark quickly drew criticism on social media, with some viewers expressing disappointment at the comment.

Van der Vaart also questioned the performance of Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk following the disappointing draw, which left the Dutch still searching for their first World Cup win.

Marcelo Bielsa hits back after photoshoot incident

Marcelo Bielsa has hit back after an awkward World Cup photoshoot sparked widespread attention, insisting: “I’m not a model.”

The Uruguay boss appeared to avoid looking at the camera during FIFA’s official team picture before his side’s 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia.

When questioned afterwards, Bielsa refused to explain his behaviour, saying he had done nothing wrong and was under no obligation to pose for photographs.

The 70-year-old, renowned for his eccentric personality and unconventional methods, dismissed suggestions the incident required clarification.

Bielsa instead urged focus on football after Uruguay's disappointing start to their World Cup campaign.

Lionel Messi hailed by Argentina boss ahead of World Cup opener

Lionel Scaloni has paid a glowing tribute to Lionel Messi, insisting the Argentine superstar's appeal stretches far beyond his homeland.

Ahead of Argentina's latest World Cup challenge, Scaloni reflected on Messi's enduring influence and described him as a player the entire planet wants to watch.

Having followed Messi's career for decades, the Argentina boss said supporters from all nations are drawn to the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner whenever he takes to the pitch.

Scaloni believes Messi's impact transcends football loyalties, with fans around the world eager to witness one of the sport's greatest-ever players in action.

Harry Maguire vows to fight for England future

Harry Maguire has ruled out retiring from international football despite the pain of missing England's World Cup squad.

The Manchester United defender admitted he was "really disappointed" after being left out by Thomas Tuchel, insisting he felt he had done enough to earn selection.

Maguire revealed Tuchel delivered the news via a FaceTime call and said the decision was difficult to accept after a strong finish to the season.

However, the 33-year-old remains determined to fight for his England future, declaring he still has plenty to offer and would value even one more cap for his country.

Iran 'being forced to leave World Cup' after New Zealand draw

Mehdi Taremi has criticised the treatment of Iran's World Cup squad after claiming they were forced to leave Los Angeles immediately following their 2-2 draw with New Zealand.

The Iran captain said the unexpected travel plans were creating unnecessary stress and disrupting preparations for the team's next match.

Taremi urged FIFA to provide greater support, insisting the situation was "not good for football" during a major tournament.

He also revealed that FIFA president Gianni Infantino visited the dressing room after the match.

In case you missed it: Iran anthem booed before World Cup opener

The reaction inside SoFi Stadium reflected the scrutiny surrounding Iran's participation, though there were also cheers for the players during the pre-match ceremonies.

On the pitch, Iran showed resilience by coming from behind twice.

Ramin Rezaeian scored once and assisted another as Iran fought back after goals from Eli Just had twice put New Zealand ahead.

Despite the off-field distractions, Iran produced a determined display to earn a valuable point.
