Imagine clipping on a robotic exoskeleton that could supercharge what your body is capable of — helping you to tackle steeper climbs, rougher terrain, and exert effort for longer without your legs giving out. It might sound like something from a science-fiction film, but it's actually a product that you can preorder today.

This is the Hypershell Halo, a robotic exoskeleton that adds motors to your hips and knees to help you cover challenging ground while reducing strain and tiredness. It takes just 20-seconds to equip, Hypershell claims.

Kelvin Sun, CEO of Hypershell, said: "Halo represents a ground-up rebuilding of the consumer exoskeleton. We didn’t simply add powered knees to an existing hip exoskeleton. We redesigned the architecture, power system, and intelligence around the entire lower body, so four powered joints can move as one with the user. The result is a new platform built to expand not just how far people can go, but the range of terrains and movements they can take on."

Think of it as a wearable machine that gives your legs a boost when you need it. The device wraps around your lower body and provides extra power to help you push through movements that would normally tire you out.

When you're climbing up a hill or squatting down with a heavy pack, it shares the load your muscles would normally handle alone. The motors kick in to provide propulsion when you're moving forward, support when you're bearing weight, and cushioning when you're coming down slopes.

What sets the Halo exoskeleton apart is the addition of powered joints at both your hips and knees, working as one system rather than just helping your hips like most others do.

This new kit relies on something Hypershell calls its Unified Architecture, with a carbon-fibre frame running from your hips down to your lower legs. This creates a direct path for transferring force across all four powered joints.

A clever bit called the Fish-Spine Adaptive Joint lets the hip motor follow your body's natural movement rather than locking you into a fixed position. You get nearly 200 degrees of side-to-side movement and 167 degrees front-to-back.

HyperIntuition 2.0 is the brains behind the whole system, trained on more than 10,000 hours of movement data. It's designed to work out what you're about to do roughly 200 milliseconds before you do it, adjusting its help up to 2,500 times every second through more than 30 sensors.

The power comes from HyperDrive Pro, a four-motor setup that delivers peak output of up to 1,490 watts across your full leg. It can assist you up to speeds of 17 kilometres per hour.

Each knee unit weighs just 170 grams, keeping things light. The motors work with those hip and knee joints to actively protect your knees, cutting muscle fatigue by up to 40% when you're squatting, whilst helping lift you on climbs and cushioning impacts.

The swappable PocketVolt battery tips the scales at 370g and gives you roughly 20 kilometres of range. You can carry it at your waist or tuck it in your pack.

The whole setup weighs just 2.6 kilograms, thanks to aerospace-grade carbon fibre and titanium construction. It's built to handle impacts and demanding terrain whilst staying light enough to wear all day.

It folds down to less than eight litres so you can pack it away, and it works with rucksacks up to 85 litres. The device is rated IP54, meaning it can handle dust and splashing water.

Five buckles and QuickFit levers let you adjust the fit precisely once, then you can put it on in about 20 seconds and take it off in just five seconds.

An AI companion called Shelly helps you set things up and learn your movement habits. Hypershell now operates in more than 70 countries with nearly 200 places where you can try the technology in person before making a purchase.

Hypershell has yet to reveal UK pricing for its new Halo exoskeleton.
