If you're watching from the UK, you can enjoy a cuppa for free
If you have an O2 SIM tucked inside your phone, you could save a small fortune in roaming costs.
To celebrate England reaching the World Cup semi-final, O2 is offering free data roaming across the United States until July 20, 2026. Without the free upgrade, O2 customers would be charged £7 per day to use their usual monthly mobile data allowance when travelling in the United States – letting them browse the web, plot turn-by-turn directions via Google Maps, stream music and video, and send messages on WhatsApp.
If you're in the United States to watch England and take advantage of this free upgrade until the end of the tournament, you'll benefit from a perk worth over £40. Who gets access to the free 5G boost?
You'll need one of the following O2 tariffs to enjoy US roaming at no cost:
Unfortunately, Pay As You Go customers don't qualify for this particular offer.
If you're eligible, O2 will credit back the cost of your travel bolt-on, letting you stay connected and share all of your match-day moments without worrying about coming home to a hefty mobile bill. If you want to enable the free upgrade, you'll need to log into your MyO2 account and toggle O2 Travel Bolt On.
The latter unlocks an identical data allowance to what you usually enjoy back in the UK. Alternatively, you can buy a standalone mobile data bolt-on with 1GB, 3GB, or 5GB allowance. O2 will automatically credit back the cost of any bolt-on purchased to use in the United States between July 6 — 20, 2026.
The World Cup bonus builds on O2's offer of EU roaming for all customers across all plans at no additional charge, for up to 25GB of data.
Virgin Media O2 Chief Executive Lutz Schüler said: "Whether travelling in Europe or heading across the Pond, we’re now giving our customers one less thing to worry about this summer by crediting back roaming charges in the USA for the remainder of the tournament.
"From cheering their team on from the stands or sharing the excitement with friends and family back home, our customers can focus on the scoreline, not roaming charges, with the freedom, connectivity and confidence to make every moment count."
If you're watching the World Cup from the UK, rather than making the trip stateside, O2 has something for you, too. Via its O2 Priority loyalty scheme, O2 subscribers can grab themselves a complimentary hot drink from Greggs on the morning following England fixtures as part of its World Cuppa deal.
You can pick up your free beverage at Greggs locations nationwide by using the Priority app.
