Sky has launched a brand-new Sky Go app. Rebuilt from the ground up, this new iteration of Sky Go lets you stream live terrestrial channels and live sport, or catch up on an unmissable boxset from anywhere in High Definition (HD).

That's a step-up from the 720p maximum resolution available on the previous Sky Go app.

Favourites saved on your Sky TV set-top box will appear in the new Sky Go app, and you'll be able to pick up from the exact moment where you left off in the latest episode of your new favourite binge-watch. When you get back home, your progress in the same episode will have updated, so you'll be able to dive back into the action with a single click.

You can also set recordings on your Sky Glass and Sky Stream box while you're out-and-about.

The rebooted Sky Go app is available for iPhone and iPad via the Apple App Store, and for Android tablets and smartphones via the Google Play Store. Sky Glass and Sky Stream subscribers will be able to access the new redesigned version of Sky Go on laptops "soon", we're told.

Sky Go is included at no extra cost with any Sky TV subscription. If you have a contract with Sky Mobile, you'll be able to stream via Sky Go from anywhere without eating into your mobile data allowance. Yes, that means even if you have a very limited allowance of 5G data, you can stream an unlimited number of shows or sport from Sky Go.

The British broadcaster first teased the existence of an all-new Sky Go app back in March.

Discussing the launch of Sky Go, Managing Director of Sky TV and NOW, Carli Kerr, said: "Great entertainment should fit around customers’ lives. Millions of customers already use Sky Go to watch what they love when they’re out and about.

"The new version is designed for Sky Glass and Sky Stream customers, bringing more of the experience they enjoy on the big screen to their devices, so it’s easier to pick up a show, follow the match or set something to record wherever they are."

If you still watch via a satellite dish using a Sky Q or Sky+ HD set-top box, then you're stuck with the previous version of Sky Go. This app — available on Android and iOS — lets you schedule recordings and watch live and on-demand television included in your Sky TV subscription from anywhere in the UK.

Familiar by design, with more ways to watch

If you already use Sky Glass or Sky Stream, the new Sky Go app should feel instantly familiar. It takes its design cues from Sky OS, the operating system behind the viewing experience on both devices, making it easier to jump between your big screen and your phone or tablet.

There’s also a new navigation bar, putting Home, TV Guide, My Library, Sport and Search right where you need them.

From the home screen, you can dive straight into Best of Sky, Movies, TV shows, Sport and Kids, while the revamped TV Guide makes it quicker and easier to find a live channel and start watching. My Library brings everything together in one place. You’ll find shows, films and sport you’ve saved to your Playlist at home, along with recently watched content and downloads, so your favourites are never far away.

New show and movie pages should also make deciding what to watch a little easier. You’ll get programme information, cast and crew details, Rotten Tomatoes scores and recommendations, as well as options to save, record or download.

And if you’re picking something for the family, a new parents’ guide on kids’ movies lets you quickly check what’s suitable for younger viewers. You can access all your live and on-demand Sky content through the app, including live Sky Sports, as well as selected partner content included with your subscription.

Never miss a thing

Ever started watching something on Sky Glass or Sky Stream, only to realise you need to head out? Continue Watching means you don't have to leave Possession hanging.

Start the latest Sky Original in your living room, pick up your phone or tablet when you head out and carry on where you left off. When you get home, you can switch back to the big screen.

You can also set selected shows, movies and sporting events to record while you’re out and about. Remember something you fancy watching later? Just hit record on your phone or tablet and it’ll be ready and waiting on your Sky Glass or Sky Stream when you’re back on the sofa.

More ways to follow live sport

If you’re a Sky Sports fan, there’s plenty to get stuck into, with more than 1,500 football matches this season, every Formula 1 race weekend, international cricket Tests, every shot from the golf Majors and plenty more live action.

The new Sky Go app makes it easier to find and follow the sport you love when you’re away from the TV.

A dedicated Sport section brings together what’s live right now, what’s coming up and anything you’ve saved to watch later. You can also follow your Premier League team and save it to My Library, giving you quick access whenever you want it.

And if you want even more live action, you can access additional events on Sky Sports+ through the app. You can even set live sport to record from your phone or tablet, so it’s ready to watch on your Sky Glass or Sky Stream when you get home.
