Eurostar has cancelled all trains scheduled to run to and from Paris today

Travel plans were thrown into disarray today after an unexploded bomb from the Second World War was discovered near Paris Gare du Nord.

Consequently, rail traffic to and from Paris was suspended, majorly impacting the Eurostar.

The bomb has now been defused and Eurostar services between Britain and France will resume tomorrow.

However, both Eurostar and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) have issued advice to those travelling today.

The international railway service told passengers: "We've had to cancel all trains scheduled to run to and from Paris on March 7, 2025.

"If your train has been cancelled, please change your journey for a different date of travel or claim a refund. We're very sorry for the disruption to your journey and the inconvenience caused."

Eurostar's Chief Safety and Stations Officer Simon Lejeune told the BBC the situation is "complex" adding they thought it was the "better option" to cancel all 32 services between London and Paris today.

The Eurostar has provided information on the next steps for affected customers.

Passengers have three months from the date they were due to travel to claim their preferred option.

Eurostar advised travellers to keep an eye on eurostar.com or the Eurostar app for further updates.

The unexploded bomb discovery caused panic among passengers. One told GB News: "We didn't know what to do."

They added that their plans had been scuppered: "It is our sister's birthday, so we were just going to meet there in Paris. She's coming from Brussels and we were supposed to come from London."

In the wake of the event, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) issued fresh updates to those visiting France or Belgium.

Britons were informed: "Eurostar and some French train services are disrupted, following the discovery of an object on the tracks near Paris Gare du Nord.

"This includes all Eurostar services between Paris and London in both directions and some RER, regional and TGV services. Check your operator's advice before travelling."

The FCDO advised: "Eurostar train services between Brussels and Paris are disrupted following the discovery of an object on the tracks near Paris Gare du Nord.

"Eurostar train services between Brussels and London may also be affected. Check your operator’s advice before travelling."

Britons visiting Belgium were recently warned as the popular destination braces for "severe disruption".

Unions in Belgium have announced plans to hold nationwide strikes on the 13th of every month.

A general strike has also been scheduled for March 31, which the FCDO warned could impact the "entire country".
