The top lidos are nearly twice the length of an Olympic pool

With more than 160 lidos and outdoor pools across the country, there are plenty of options if looking to stay cool in the 30°C heat.

GB News rounds up the 20 largest lidos in the country, with top options across England, Scotland and Wales making the list.

According to All The Lidos - an outdoor swimming project tracking these venues - more than 160 publicly accessible outdoor pools and swimming locations are open throughout the UK.

These range from massive municipal pools in the capital to dramatic tidal baths offering a place to cool down while basking in the sun. A pool in Cambridge topped the list of the largest lidos, according to the data.

STAYCATIONS

The best lidos and outdoor pools have been ranked by size, using the All The Lidos list and dimensions published by lido operators and swimming organisations.

Jesus Green Lido in Cambridge and Tooting Bec Lido were joint top, thanks to having the longest lengths.

Jesus Green Lido is a historic pool that is open year-round, though it is unheated, so swimmers must be brave to visit in the winter months. After enjoying the riverside setting at Jesus Green park, visitors can try out the sauna or grab a bite to eat.

Outside of England, the National Lido of Wales ranked highest. Described as a "historic family attraction that is the only one of its kind in Wales", there are three heated pools and an adventure play park for children to enjoy.

The rankings show how strongly London dominates Britain’s large-lido landscape, making up nearly a third of the list.

There are still plenty of regional pools worth visiting, however. Lidos in Cambridge, Yorkshire, Devon, Wales and Scotland continue to attract devoted swimming communities.

More and more pools are being restored and upgraded for year-round use, helping transform outdoor swimming from a seasonal novelty into one of Britain’s fastest-growing leisure trends.
