The UK is expecting lower humidity across the country

The Met Office has revealed the details of when the latest heatwave will end as Britain gears up for a lengthy period of hot weather.

Over the past month, Britons have been sweltering in sunny climes as temperatures soar across the country.

June witnessed a series of long-standing records broken as the UK was forced to endure high-daytime temperatures in addition to hot nights.

The skyrocketing temperatures combined with stifling humidity culminated in several insufferable days for Britons attempting to go about their everyday life.

A provisional high of 37.7C was recorded at Lingwood, Strumpshaw Hill on June 26, beating the previous record of 35.6C in Southampton all the way back in June 1976.

Britons are once again bracing for another extensive period of sunshine and toasty temperatures, which is likely to last until the start of next week, July 13.

The Met Office shared: "The very warm conditions are likely to last into the weekend, but with increasing humidity and a growing risk of showers or isolated thunderstorms.

"Into early next week, temperatures are likely to trend down slightly, although many areas will stay dry, fine and still warm."

Over the weekend, the forecaster declared Britain's third heatwave of the year, with temperatures forecast to soar to a sizzling 35C by the weekend.

Teddington recorded Monday's highest temperature at 34C after three consecutive days of temperatures exceeding 28C – the threshold for a heatwave in the capital.

Weather gurus expect the hot weather to intensify over the coming days, with temperatures reaching around 32C on Tuesday, climbing to 33C on Wednesday and peaking at 34C on Thursday.

By Friday and Saturday, some parts of southern England could reach 35C.

Met Office deputy chief forecaster Steven Keates said: "However, unlike the May and June heatwaves, we are not expecting this heatwave to be record-breaking."

Nor, he added, will the heatwave be "quite so humid and so the night may not be quite so uncomfortable".

"But the heat this week which is made worse by climate change may still cause health issues and infrastructure problems," Mr Keates warned.

He encouraged people to "take the usual precautions with the heat and the sun".

The UK Health Security Agency issued amber heat health alerts for the Midlands and southern England from 9am on Wednesday until 9pm on Sunday.

But, by the time next Monday rolls around, temperatures should drop slightly, while areas across the UK will continue to feel the summer heat.

The NHS has urged heat-affected Britons to take careful precautions as the weather conditions and to stay under shaded areas between 11am and 3pm.

Experts have recommended people keep topped up on cold food and drinks, and to take a cool shower to lower their body temperature.
