GB News WINS TRIC Awards again after triumph over BBC and ITV

Lizzie Cundy has revealed exactly why she is proud to be part of GB News, hailing the broadcaster's rise to become Britain's "number one news channel" just hours before it secured another Tric Award victory.

Speaking on the red carpet at the Television and Radio Industries Club Awards on Tuesday, the presenter and commentator praised the channel's loyal audience and said she could sense another win was on the cards.

And her prediction proved correct.

GB News Breakfast was crowned Best News Programme for the fourth consecutive year at the star-studded ceremony in London, beating BBC Breakfast, Good Morning Britain and ITV Evening News to the prestigious prize.

Ahead of the announcement, Lizzie reflected on the broadcaster's success since launching in 2021.

"I think it says that people are actually really loving and enjoying GB News," she told GB News.

"We are the number one news channel. We're beating Sky, we're beating the BBC.

"People everywhere I go say, 'Lizzie, keep it going, we love it'."

The television personality, who is a regular contributor on programmes including Saturday Five and Nana Akua's weekend shows, said the channel's willingness to host robust debate had struck a chord with audiences.

"We tell the truth and we have great debate, two sides of the argument," she said.

"I like a good row and it's just fantastic. It's gone from strength to strength."

GB News celebrated its fifth anniversary this year and has become a regular winner at the public-voted awards ceremony.

The broadcaster's flagship breakfast programme has now won Best News Programme four years in a row, cementing its position as one of the UK's most popular morning news shows.

Asked before the ceremony whether she thought another victory was on the cards, Lizzie said she was feeling optimistic.

"We've got another Tric? Maybe," she laughed.

"I can feel it. I've got my lucky pants on and we're going to win."

The annual awards, hosted this year by Tric President Dan Walker, celebrate the best of British television, radio, streaming and online entertainment, with winners largely decided by members of the public.

Lizzie reserved her biggest thanks for the viewers who have supported GB News over the past five years.

"I just want to say thank you so much," she said.

"Seriously, for tuning in, for watching, for all the texts and emails – even if you don't always agree with me, it's fantastic.

"Making us the number one news channel is fantastic and we wouldn't be anything without our viewers and listeners."
