The hunt for Daniel Craig's replacement as 007 has entered a new phase, with those overseeing the franchise said to be whittling down their list of potential candidates.
Director Denis Villeneuve, alongside producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, has begun reaching out to actors who have progressed to the subsequent round of auditions, according to Deadline.
Sources indicate screen tests are anticipated to commence in August, with Mr Villeneuve himself personally telephoning performers to deliver the news.
The filmmaker and Amazon MGM Studios producers are seeking a successor following Craig's departure after 2021's No Time To Die, which depicted the iconic spy's death.

Insiders remain divided on precisely how many performers will be put through their paces this summer, with some suggesting between five and seven candidates while others believe the figure could reach double digits.
The preliminary stages of casting are now drawing to a close, having involved informal discussions with emerging talent over recent weeks.
These meetings have primarily focused on lesser-known actors being assessed for potential inclusion alongside more established names already under consideration.
To assist in identifying Mr Craig's successor, Amazon MGM has enlisted the expertise of Nina Gold, the acclaimed casting director whose credits include the Star Wars films, Les Misérables and The Martian.

"While we don't plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we're excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right."
Speculation has swirled around several names, with Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi all rumoured to be among those being considered for the coveted role.
Mr Turner, however, has played down suggestions he knows anything about his prospects, telling The Hollywood Reporter: "I know as much as you do - really, I know as much as you do..."

The 53-year-old insisted the rumours linking him to the role were "never legit" and argued a Black actor would struggle to be accepted as Bond by audiences around the world.
Mr Elba also urged the franchise not to "go woke", warning producers to remain faithful to Ian Fleming's original creation.
"Bond is so unrealistic, so a hint of reality is good, but let's not try and make it woke," he said.
"I think you've got to be pure to what it is: escapism. Don't try to answer the world's taste. Just be Bond."
Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg recently revealed one of the biggest regrets of his career was never getting the chance to direct a James Bond film.
The Oscar-winning filmmaker said he repeatedly approached legendary Bond producer Albert "Cubby" Broccoli after the success of Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, only to be turned down on both occasions.
