The wipes were sold through five major UK retail channels before being pulled from sale over contamination risks
A widely available brand of intimate wet wipes has been subject to an urgent product recall owing to fears of microbiological contamination.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards has warned consumers who possess the affected FreshWipes Intimate Unscented Wipes to cease using them without delay.
The product safety body identified that certain batches may harbour harmful microbiological agents, potentially triggering adverse skin reactions in users.
FreshWipes has initiated the recall directly from end users, with the OPSS stating: "Consumers in possession of an affected batch should stop using the product immediately."
The 10-pack moist wipes, also available in multipacks and self-care bundles, have been pulled from sale.
The recalled wipes were available through a number of prominent retail channels, including the FreshWipes website, Amazon UK, TG Jones (the retailer formerly known as WH Smith), TikTok Shop and QVC.
Consumers should be aware that only two specific batches are covered by this recall.
The affected lot numbers are LOT 0926 and LOT 0515. FreshWipes has confirmed that no other products in its range are implicated.
The company stressed that the issue is confined solely to its Intimate Unscented Wipes bearing those particular batch codes, and all remaining lines continue to meet safety standards.
To determine whether their wipes fall within the recall, customers should examine the batch number printed on the reverse of the packaging. Any pack displaying either LOT 0926 or LOT 0515 is affected and must not be used further.
The OPSS explained the root cause of the contamination risk, stating: "It has been identified that affected batches may be microbiologically contaminated, with the preservative system not performing as required."
The regulator further noted that the implicated batches fall short of the standards mandated under Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, commonly referred to as the Cosmetics Regulation.
Consumers were advised to contact their place of purchase regarding return procedures and appropriate redress.
Those who purchased the wipes directly from FreshWipes should reach out to the company's customer support team at [email protected], attaching a photograph of any remaining packs that clearly displays the lot number.
The brand has pledged to provide either a complimentary replacement or store credit to affected customers.
FreshWipes expressed regret for the disruption, adding: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused and remain committed to the safety and quality of our products."
Buyers who obtained the wipes through a third-party stockist are urged to approach that retailer directly to arrange a return.
The OPSS recommended contacting one's place of purchase for guidance on disposal or refund options.
