Motorists are being told to expect delays when travelling across the country today following serious road accidents in Leicestershire and Lincolnshire.
National Highways has stated that the A46 in Leicestershire remains closed in both directions between the A50 (Groby) and the M1 J21A.
A serious collision, which took place just before 4.45am this morning, resulted in a vehicle fire, prompting an urgent response from the emergency services.
Leicestershire Police are leading the response to the incident and are in the process of starting collision investigations.
Traffic officers from National Highways are managing congestion, with traffic caught in the closure slowly being released.
The road is expected to remain closed for several hours, as coverage maps show slow-moving and stationary traffic around Leicester.
At present, the delays on the M1 northbound exit slip at J21A for A46 are expected to clear between 1.30pm and 1.45pm.
Normal traffic conditions are also expected to return at a similar time, although this could be pushed back further as collision investigations take place.
