Popular electric vehicle charging point provider InstaVolt has become the first UK operator to exceed 1,000 sites after it confirmed a significant acquisition.
Ultra-rapid charging provider InstaVolt has agreed to acquire 228 charging locations from GeniePoint, comprising of more than 260 chargers across the nation.
With the transaction completed, InstaVolt now has more than 1,200 locations nationwide, making it the first EV charger operator to exceed 1,000 sites.
The chargers, which are owned and operated by Equans, will be rebranded and upgraded over the next 12 months.
InstaVolt will also increase the number of chargers from around 260 to more than 400, with more than 100 charging sites located within local authority car parks.
Over the next year, electric car drivers will be able to use the InstaVolt devices at car parks, motorways, retail spaces and hospitality destinations.
The charge point operator already has more than 4,000 chargers, which are both operational and in build, across almost 1,000 locations.
This will maintain InstaVolt's position as the UK's largest and most reliable ultra-rapid public charging network.

Delvin Lane, CEO of the charge point operator, said: "This transaction represents a major milestone for InstaVolt and for the UK EV charging industry.
"By surpassing 1,200 locations, we become the first charge point operator in the UK to operate more than 1,000 sites nationwide.
"It is a significant achievement that reflects the trust placed in us by drivers, landlords and major national brands."

| INSTAVOLTHe emphasised that drivers need the UK's charging infrastructure to expand as more drivers get behind the wheel of an electric car.
This is especially crucial given that more than two million electric cars are already on the road and EVs account for almost one in four new sales.
Mr Lane highlighted that acquiring the new sites will further help InstaVolt achieve its mission to provide 99 per cent reliability rates and ease of use for drivers.
"It is a clear statement of our commitment to building the public charging network the country needs as it makes the switch to electric," the CEO added.

The transaction of the GeniePoint chargers will not have any impact on existing customers, as they will continue to benefit from 24/7 support throughout the process.
Any Equans non-public charging points will continue to be operated by GeniePoint for all private charging customers.
