Bank branch closures are continuing into June 2026, with 86 locations set to begin shutting down for good as from as soon as today.
Lloyds Banking Group, which comprises Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland, will account for the majority of closures, followed by NatWest.
Research conducted by consumer champion Which? found that between 2015 and 2024 more than 6,000 branches left the high street.
Banks and building societies have come under scrutiny of MPs over the these closures and the rollout of replacement Banking Hubs in affected communities.
Recently, the Government launched a review into the rollout of Banking Hubs across the UK and the wider impact of branch closures on access to financial services.
Rocio Concha, the director of Policy and Advocacy at Which?, described the issue of bank branch closures as a "serious problem" for millions.
She said: "People and communities losing access to face-to-face banking services is a serious problem. Which? research has highlighted the scale of bank branch closures across the UK and the significant impact this is having on communities.
"This announcement shouldn’t divert attention from broader proposals in the financial services bill which endanger consumer protection. Mooted changes to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) would weaken vital consumer safeguards at a time when many are struggling with financial pressures."
