The DWP will automatically bring forward payments for pensioners whose usual payday falls on a bank holiday
Older state pension recipients are set to receive payments worth up to £739 early from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) ahead of the August bank holidays.
The summer bank holidays will alter the normal payment schedule for pensioners whose state pension is usually paid on a Monday.
Scotland's summer bank holiday falls on August 3, while England, Wales and Northern Ireland will observe their bank holiday on August 31.
The DWP brings forward benefit and pension payments when the normal payment date falls on a bank holiday.
The full basic state pension currently pays £184.90 a week following the 4.8 per cent increase introduced on April 6.
As the state pension is paid every four weeks, recipients entitled to the full basic rate receive £739.60 each payment period.
Pensioners in Scotland who are due to receive their state pension on Monday, August 3, will instead be paid on Friday, July 31.
The change means eligible recipients will receive their payment three days earlier than usual. The adjustment applies automatically to people receiving the older basic state pension whose regular payment day is a Monday.
Those with a full National Insurance contributions record will receive up to £739.60 into their bank, building society or credit union account.
People with fewer qualifying National Insurance years will receive a lower amount based on their entitlement.
No action is required from pensioners as the DWP will automatically adjust the payment date.
In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, pensioners due to receive their state pension on Monday, August 31, will instead be paid on Friday, August 28.
The DWP said: "Benefits are usually paid straight into your bank, building society or credit union account. If your payment date is on a weekend or a bank holiday you'll usually be paid on the working day before.
"The day your pension is paid depends on your National Insurance number. You might be paid earlier if your normal payment day is a bank holiday."
Payments will be made into recipients' usual accounts without the need to contact the DWP.
Pensioners can check whether they are affected by looking at the final two digits of their National Insurance number.
National Insurance numbers ending between 00 and 19 are paid on Mondays.
Only pensioners with Monday payment dates, meaning National Insurance numbers ending between 00 and 19, will receive their payment early because of the August bank holidays.
The DWP also explained what new claimants should expect when they begin receiving the state pension.
The department said: "You'll be asked when you want to start getting your state pension when you claim. Your first payment will be no later than five weeks after the date you choose.
