Unlike traditional savings accounts, Premium Bonds do not accrue interest, with savers instead being enrolled in a monthly cash prize draw
The Premium Bonds £1million jackpot prize winners for September 2026 have been revealed by the National Savings and Investments (NS&I).
Two lucky individuals, one based in Norwich and the other in London, have each scooped the £1million Premium Bonds jackpot in the September 2026 draw.
The winners were revealed today as NS&I's flagship savings product edges closer to a significant milestone: its 70th anniversary, which falls in November 2026.
Both holders were contacted directly by Agent Million ahead of the public announcement. The jackpot Bond numbers for the month are 484QT130447 for the Norwich winner and 659VC982054 for the London recipient.
Each month, NS&I's Electronic Random Number Indicator Equipment (ERNIE) selects two £1million prize winners from eligible bonds.
The Norwich winner bought their successful bond in January 2022 and holds the maximum permitted amount of £50,000 in Premium Bonds.
They become the seventh person from the city to claim the top prize. Meanwhile, the London-based holder invested £45,500, with their winning bond purchased just this January.
Remarkably, their bond needed only to be held for one full calendar month before becoming eligible for the draw. This latest millionaire is the 25th jackpot winner from the capital.
The contrast between the two is notable: one held bonds for over four years before striking lucky, while the other waited barely eight months.
Andrew Westhead, NS&I's retail director, said: "ERNIE is bringing some autumnal joy to two Premium Bonds holders in Norwich and London who have won £1million each this month." He also reflected on the product's heritage.
"Premium Bonds first went on sale almost 70 years ago. They were launched in November 1956 by the then Chancellor of the Exchequer, Harold Macmillan.
"The original jackpot was £1,000 and was gradually increased to £1million by 1994. ERNIE has since drawn 586 £1 million prizes."
The top prize reached its current level from the April 1994 draw onwards, having risen steadily from the original four-figure sum over nearly four decades.
In the September draw, more than 6.5 million tax-free prizes worth a combined £497,086,175 will be distributed to winners. Over 137 billion individual £1 bonds were eligible this month.
Since the inaugural draw in June 1957, a cumulative 858 million prizes totalling £42.8billion have been awarded. Holders can check whether they have won prizes of between £25 and £100,000 from today using the NS&I website, the Premium Bonds prize checker app, or via Alexa.
An NS&I or holder's number is required. Premium Bonds remain backed by HM Treasury, with individuals permitted to hold up to £50,000, including children under 16.
