Wynsors has launched discount sales across multiple stores that are earmarked for closure

Store closures are ramping up across the UK with a much-loved shore retailer preparing to shut down multiple shops in the months ahead.

Wynsors, the budget footwear chain originally trading as Wynsors World of Shoes, is set to permanently shut 17 of its shops in the coming months.

The retailer, which has been on the high street since 1956, runs dozens of branches predominantly in northern England alongside an online store offering affordable and branded shoes, trainers, and schoolwear.

Closing-down sales are already under way at the affected locations, with discounts of up to 30 per cent available while stock remains.

The company has indicated that "everything" must go as the branches prepare to close their doors for the final time.

Notably, the Birkenhead store, situated in the Europa Centre, is one of those already running its final sale.

Wynsors has stressed that only selected shops are affected and that its remaining locations will carry on operating as usual.

In Merseyside, for instance, branches in Knotty Ash and St Helens will stay open, as will its Warrington store.

In a statement provided to Crewe Nub News, a Wynsors spokesperson said: "It's with sadness that we announce that certain Wynsors stores will be closing its doors.

"We'd like to say a huge thank you to all of our customers who have shopped with us and supported the store over the years. Your support has meant so much to the whole team."

The company has expressed particular gratitude towards the loyal shoppers who frequented its branches over the decades, describing their custom as deeply meaningful to staff.

However, Wynsors has so far declined to elaborate on what has driven the decision to close such a significant number of its outlets.
