Two people have been arrested after a man was shot dead at a traveller site in Wiltshire.
The duo - a man in his 70s and a woman in her 40s - were handcuffed on Sunday after a body was found at around 8.15am.
Police have now launched a murder probe, with the pair arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and assisting an offender.
They were taken into custody, while a cordon was put in place at the scene.
Wiltshire Police's detective chief inspector Phil Walker said: "This is an incredibly serious incident, and my thoughts are with the victim’s friends and family at this devastating time.
"Enquiries are ongoing at the site and in the wider area to establish the circumstances which have led to this incident and locate all the people involved.
"A cordon is in place at the site and the road leading to it has been closed to allow for enquiries to be conducted and I would ask that this is respected.
"Those in the area will see an increased policing presence throughout the evening as enquiries continue.
"We are really keen to hear from anybody who has any information or witnessed anything suspicious this morning."
Wiltshire is one of the safest places in Britain for homicide and crime more generally.
The area recorded just six killings in the year ending March 2026 - half the average of 12 per county.
In terms of total recorded crime, Wiltshire was the third-safest county in the UK last year, only outranked by Warwickshire and the tiny City of London.

It is also the fourth-safest county in the country for weapons offences.
It registered 454 - behind only the City of London, Dorset, and Dyfed-Powys.
Regarding the shooting in Wiltshire, police have urged anyone with any information to call the force on 101 quoting log 95 of August 2, 2026.
