GB News's Editorial Director Mick Booker has reflected on a year since GB News launched The Late Show Live

We aren’t yet able to give every viewer and listener $5,000, but the great American GB News dividend is paying out every day.

At the same time President Trump was setting out his plans to give each adult a $5,000 windfall if Republicans won the mid-term elections, aka the Trump Dividend, GB News was celebrating a year in the US.

We boldly set up our Washington DC bureau last September, with critics predicting we’d be as successful as a bar owner during Prohibition.

But they soon had to put a cork in it after the team, led by the irrepressible double act of Bev Turner and Ben Leo, proved them wrong.

Indeed, the bureau was only a couple of months old when the President himself summoned Bev and the team for an interview in the world-famous Roosevelt Room in the White House.

That interview hit the headlines everywhere – with GB News the news channel on the lips of people across the world.

It proved to be a real launching pad for the bureau and nightly programme The Late Show Live show – with the dividend of being based at the heart of the world’s biggest political hotspot paying off in spades ever since.

Our American dream has proved to be a nightmare for so-called TV news rivals with unrivalled journalism around major breaking news stories and historic events ever since launch.

Though the location isn’t as familiar to us Brits, the themes certainly are.

We brought you rolling coverage of the aftermath of the assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10th last year – not only a devastating attack on a young husband and father, but one that threatened free speech itself.

The Late Show Live has brought you the ongoing drama of the massive and controversial ICE raids.

Intrepid Ben Leo, who today is in New York for the 25th anniversary of 9/11, joined immigration officers on a swoop on illegal migrants in Florida – something British viewers have called for here.

To add to that there were stories about the Transatlantic special relationship, the future of the political Right, national security, global terrorism, and some bloke causing chaos either side of the Pond called Prince Harry…

There’s also been the fun of the World Cup – apart from that bit with the unruly Argies of course - exclusive coverage of JCB setting a new land speed record in the salt flats of Utah, and this week the global threat we all face from A.I. getting too clever and turning on us all!

One year on and GB News is building a presence in the US capitol that’s on stronger foundations than the President’s ballroom.

The sceptics who claimed that a news channel like ours would be about as welcome as a British soldier at The Boston Tea party have been silenced.

This week we toasted the success at a special event in Washington.

From our very own Bev and Ben to White House border tsar Tom Homan and the British Ambassador Christian Turner, the room was a testament to how far we’ve come.

But the most important people we raised a glass to where YOU - the audience who makes it all worthwhile.

Unless of course A.I. revolts by taking over our homes and turns our kettles into killing machines.
