Kemi Badenoch’s great Tory clearout misses the colossal problem staring her in the face

Kemi Badenhoch might call sacking the Big Beasts in the Tory Cabinet a 'bold overhaul', however the rest of us would call it what it is - rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Does Kemi really think sacking Priti Patel, Mel Stride and others will miraculously turn around the Tory Party’s blackened reputation, which even after two years of this incompetent Labour Government, is STILL in the toilet?

Does she imagine the public, who still hate the Tories with a passion, will think, 'oh well that’s those blaggards gone, let's run back into the fold and rejoice in the new appointments'.

Harriet Cross (who?), Rebecca Paul (who?), Damian Hinds (who?), Tom Tugendhat (he doesn’t want to leave the ECHR) and Claire Coutinho (the only standout appointment).

If she does, she’s deluded. Because she’s replaced Tories most of us have heard of with a gang most of us haven’t. And yes, I sort of get the logic. She’s done it believing the public sees them as the old Tory guard tainted by the Tories appalling record and so getting rid of them will get rid of that.

But Kemi must surely know the Tories problem is a million times bigger than people like Cleverly, Patel and Stride. It’s not about a handful of people, it’s about fourteen years of lies and abject failure.

It’s about 14 years of promising to fix things, and failing. It’s about taking the public for fools, never believing for a second they’d vote in that shower of useless incompetents who are the Labour Party.

But so disillusioned, so bloody furious were they that’s exactly what they did. And yes, these last two years, the Labour Party has covered itself in shame after letting the public down on every conceivable level.

We have dodgy people - not to mention people actually convicted of criminal offences - in Government.

It’s a Government that has lied to the British people time and again, that is devoid of morals and principles. But worst of all we have a wet wipe of a Prime Minister no-one voted for.

And all this is without mentioning the problems currently engulfing the country - the £3trillion debt, a £400B welfare budget and out of control immigration. But despite all this Labour ARE in power and will be for at least the next two years.

So, you’d think after all these disasters the Tories would be racing ahead in the polls. But they’re not. Labour is on 27 per cent; Reform 25 per cent and the Tories are trailing at 19 per cent.

OK, I need to make clear here that I think Kemi Badenhoch would be a BRILLIANT Prime Minister. She’s currently the standout - best of all the party leaders.

She’s ballsy, she’s got guts, she has her finger on the pulse of the British people, and she was one of the few leaders who could humiliate, shame and call out Keir Starmer for exactly what he was. And I have absolutely no doubt she will do worse to the robotic Andy Burnham who hasn’t yet realised he’s supposed to be running a country not a local council.

I’m getting in popcorn to watch her rip him to shreds at his first PMQ’s this week and asking why, when Britain is being subsumed by monumental problems, he’s still faffing around with bus fares, homelessness and cowboy builders.

Kemi has made crystal clear what her policies would be if she was PM something Burnham has refused to do.

But if you’re wondering why the Tories are still madly out of public favour ask yourself this – can you name three people, apart from those who’ve just been appointed, in the Tory cabinet? I’m betting you’ll struggle because the only Tory who ever makes the headlines and has anything to say is Kemi. The ones we did know and hear from - Kemi’s just sacked.

And think about this - for the Tories to win by a majority of just one at the next election they have to win another 208 seats to add to their current piddling 118.

So where are those votes going to come from? From Reform that’s where. And this brings me to the only thing that grates about Kemi. It’s her sneering attitude and her constant dismissal of Reform together with her insistence that come the election she’d never even consider making a pact with them.

Really? Even if NOT doing it means another five years of Labour? .

I will only ever believe she really loves this country and wants what’s best for it when she stops dismissing Reform as some hateful party that doesn’t deserve to stand anywhere near hers. She must realise

Reform is where most of the angry Tory voters went and so by insulting Reform she insults them.

I get she doesn’t want to have to share power. But if sharing power with Reform is the only way to save Britain from the Knackers’ Yard - and she didn’t do it – she really doesn’t want what’s best for Britain at all.

It would mean she just wants what all the other leaders want - personal power!
